First time impressions are always important when meeting anyone, and it is also true for your first visit to an amusement park.
On my very first visit to Michigan's Adventure I had a lot of fun running the park! Not only getting each of the coaster credits available, but to also see a piece of my home park standing tall and in operation here (Flying Trapeze from Valleyfair).
Coaster Breakdown:
🌀Corkscrew: As you walk in, Corkscrew is right there in its vibrant blue and teal coloration. This is a classic staple for many parks. Not overly thrilling by any means, but I do enjoy the corkscrew element over the queue line for an interesting angle.
🐭Mad Mouse: Smoother than I expected and overall great experience. Minimal trims as you fly through the tracks, which equates to massive amounts of airtime and laterals!
🍃Shivering Timbers: I'm not sure if this was over hyped to me, but I didn't feel it was as great as people were making it out to be. I was warned about a pothole, but apparently that wasn't there anymore. It seemed smoother than what I had expected in the front portion of the course but became more jarring as we flew through the second half of the course. Still a great ride, but not one of my favorite woodies out there, and definitely not the "wooden version of Diamondback" as someone said in the queue line. 😂
🦅Thunderhawk: Now I am one of the rare people out there who enjoys a good SLC. My husband had a good laugh at me when I said this was almost too smooth for my liking. 🤣 Now, I think many of you out there, who are like him, will think this is one of the best out there in its category.
🐯Wolverine Wildcat: This was your typical head rattling woodie that was saved with some retrack that The Gravity Group came in to help out with. You can definitely tell where the smoother Titan Track was added in. Many of the park guests who had visited before say this is smoother, but not necessarily better because they feel the retrack has nerfed the ride a bit too much for their liking. As this is my first visit, I don't have anything to compare it to, but those that had traveled to Worlds of Fun and ridden Prowler after the retrack there, compares the experiences as almost identical. Having that as a comparison, I can only imagine what this was like before. I am unsure if Gravity Group is aware of the feedback that guests have had on the retracks, but hope they do so they can continue to help these woodies in the future, without the nerfed experiences. I still enjoyed this ride and grabbed about 3-4 extra rides throughout the day.
🐤Woodstock Express: Hey, a credit is a credit and what you see is what you get. I got my one ride and can move on to the big coasters.
💫Zach's Zoomer: A mid level thrill coaster that is great for kids who want to take the next step in their coaster adventures. A little airtime pop and a longer layout. Great little family coaster for the park. I think a lot of parks would do well to have one of these.
Michigan's Adventure is a beautiful park and for a small park has some great rides to choose from to make a well rounded day of fun.
Some fun tidbits:
-The train ride is simply there for transport and not a scenic experience as many other parks have in the chain. It is good to utilize from the back of the park to head back toward the front by Shivering Timbers.
-If you want to be a little romantic, or a little corny, take a ride on the swan boats located across the little lake (pond), they can be a bit tricky to navigate your first time though.
-On a hot day, take a ride on Grand Rapids, their river raft ride for a soaking, its a great way to cool off.
-And, if you want some great photos, you have so many areas that are picture perfect around the park to enjoy, especially at the top of their Ferris wheel.
I am looking forward to my next visit and to hopefully run into a few familiar faces next time.
