Tough running year for Z-dude. We set our a@notions high and came up quite short. We missed every goal set this year with the exception of a BQ (which wasn’t fast enough to get us in). A late year injury has me hobbling into 2026, so once we are healthy, the only goal is to run fast enough to get into the Boston marathon. Setting sights on a 2:54 marathon. 2026 is all about speed. Let’s all achieve in 2026!

Went up to Akron for the Regal Beagle 50K today, and went home 10th overall and 2nd 40-49M

A GI problem nearly derailed my goal of a sub-9 pace, but we got ‘er done. In most of my races recently I’ve been taking it pretty leisurely because none of them have been anything serious. Decided to push myself today so that I could remember what it feels like to run with deliberate effort. Not to say that running a 100 mile race is easy 🤣 But when you’re only goal is “finish”, it’s pretty easy to walk those hills that you know deep down you could still run. Today I made myself run the entire time even when it was probably only gaining me a few seconds on the climbs.

I know this finish time isn’t anything extraordinary, but it does represent hard work and hard and effort, so I’m glad I did it!

Rim to River 100 has been completed! I (Jason) ventured out-of-state to the New River Gorge for what was a beautiful, but challenging course featuring over 12k feet of elevation. This is race #3 in my 4 consecutive week calendar of stupidity, with Canal Corridor 100 and Columbus Marathon being the first 2, and GRRR 50K this coming Saturday.

As a first, the course was changed *mid-race*. A road was being worked on due to erosion of a supporting bank that took it to one lane. We had all ran on it already, and the leaders had just passed it again when more of the bank collapsed and the road was completely shut down. Kudos to the race director for coming up with an alternative solution instead of canceling the rest of the race! Only downside is that the course was now 5 miles short.

Highlights include:
- There were several absolutely brutal climbs, and rocks everywhere
- Brought poles again. They definitely saved my quads and l was able to do some semblance of running on the more technical sections
- Biffed it when I looked down quickly to see my chest lamp’s charge. Bent my fingers on my right hand back while trying to catch myself without breaking my poles
- I missed a turn and added 3.5 miles
- This tested my mental capacity for hills and rocks

Finish time via chip was somewhere around 26:30, but I kept running running to finish up the full 100 in 26:58. Guess those bonus 3.5 miles came in handy!

Here we are at Columbus Marathon eve! We rejoin forces for our October race, though come into it with different goals.

This was pegged as Zachary’s second BQ attempt this year, with his Athens BQ not quite being enough to clear the additional time needed to qualify. He will be facing an uphill battle for that tomorrow, as not only will the forecasted rain be a problem, but also the ankle sprain he suffered 2 weeks ago AND a bout of food poisoning he’s getting over today.

Jason is fresh off of Canal Corridor 100 last weekend and is running this as a FOMO race because everyone else is doing it and he didn’t retain anything about that from DARE in elementary school. Goal for him is to keep it at a reasonable pace that won’t result in any strains or injuries to deal with as he heads into Rim to River 100 next weekend.

It’s supposed to be a soggy one tomorrow, so probably not much race-day live content because Jason already ruined a phone in the rain at Burning River and doesn’t need to replace it again.

Big Bad Wolfe 20-miler today as a little side quest. 10th overall, 1st M40-49. Chip time 2:19:06 @ 6:57/mi, but I still say this course is short even though they promise it isn’t.

Good day for a race! Sunny but mostly shaded, so not too hot. Great to see all of the RUNColumbus peeps I’ve not seen in a while. Goal was a 7:30/mi pace but was able to beat that by a fair amount. Right calf is a little tight now, so gonna be watching that and probably taking it easy tomorrow.
