Tumbleweird

Tumbleweird Promoting art, culture, and positivity in the Tri-Cities. Positively weird. We aren’t beholden to advertisers or authorities.
(1)

Tumbleweird exists to bring together a more diverse, creative, and progressive community than Eastern Washington gets credit for, in order to connect, highlight, and encourage the betterment of our area. We do this by publishing a community-driven paper that uncovers the region’s true identity in a way that’s always positive, often irreverent, and never timid. We serve the truly powerful: the unde

rdogs, the misfits, the outsiders, the newcomers, those on the margins, and the ones who defy the status quo. Except for the almighty buttermint lobby.

Port of Benton update: Former CFO Speaks out as criminal investigation begins

by Dori Luzzo Gilmour

“Doing the right thing sometimes comes with a cost.”

_This article is a continuation of the stories we have published about ongoing issues at the Port of Benton: _https://tumbleweird.org/topic/port-of-benton

The Port of Benton Commissioners are appealing the ruling of Judge Diana Ruff to the Washington State Supreme Court.

Alicia Myers said that when she was brought on to the Port in 2025, Executive Director Diahann Howard explained that they had found leases that were “below market value.”

Myers said that pointing out the issues and risks she saw in the Port, and reporting on the problems directly, resulted in the commissioners' retaliation against her.

Q***r Grief, Q***r Joy

June is often seen as a month for celebration. A time where q***r people gather for community, safety, and fun. There are flags, parades, music, and visibility.

Pride can feel loud, colorful, and full of life. And for many people, it is. But there is also grief there…

Grief for the parts of yourself you had to hide to avoid rejection.
Grief for the years spent trying to fit into something that never felt right.
Grief for relationships that ended because others chose to walk away.

And for some, there is the grief of not being out yet, of still needing to hide.
