Bailey Spurling’s book, entitled “Surviving: The True Story,” details her diagnosis with invasive ductal carcinoma and HER2-positive breast cancer in December 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which she says made it more difficult to find a doctor during that period.

“I found out because I had an uncontrollable itch on my left side, and I could feel something there,” detailed Spurling. “I had a mass that was almost 10 centimeters on my left-hand side”.

RICHMOND HILL – A local hairstylist is ready to share her experiences with breast cancer in a touching memoir, with a book signing event to be held next month.

It’s a fact: the two best teams in Region 3AA are Metter and Screven County. Those two are going to wind up duking it out for the region championship, and the automatic state playoffs berth that goes with it.

Bryan County’s focus for the remainder of the season is to be the best of the rest. The Redskins took a step toward reaching that goal Tuesday night when they posted a somewhat lackadaisical 19-6 win over St. Vincent’s Academy at AmBucs Field.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Bryan County (6-6, 3-3) and kept it in the running for one of the 32 state playoff berths, which are now determined by the post-season ranking (PSR) system.

SAVANNAH – For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Georgia Public Service Commission hosted its administrative meeting outside of Atlanta, bringing the session to Savannah amid data center development conversations, namely the OpenAI project in Effingham County.

The commission held its regular administrative meeting Tuesday in the Chatham County Board of Commissioners Chambers before hosting a two-hour town hall, where residents from across southeast Georgia questioned commissioners and utility officials about rapid data center development, pressuring them for stricter regulations.

Twenty-five years ago, Ernie Siegler was working at Colonial Oil and Gas when the 9/11 terrorist attacks began.

“We heard it on the radio and went to the lab to watch it on TV,” said Siegler. “It was emotional. You wouldn’t think of a bunch of grown men who would sit around and cry. You just saw the devastation that had taken place.”

Siegler, who now resides in Effingham County, was present at a first responders luncheon at Pembroke’s J. Dixie Harn Community Center to honor them for their service and also to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Siegler works at the Flanders Powell Funeral Home, which sponsored the event.

After their frantic finish last week, Richmond Hill will be home to face Wando on its homecoming night. The Wildcats won on the game’s last play when they blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown at Ware County for a 13-7 victory.

“The Ware County game was a battle,” said Richmond Hill head coach Matt LeZotte. “It was physical, it was tough, and nothing came easy. Those are the types of games that reveal a lot about your football team, and I was proud of the way our guys continued to compete and found a way to get out of there with a win.”
