I like words. I like to write them. I like to read them. I have my own personal library of favorite books, and yes, I reread them from time to time. It’s comforting to me, like catching up with a dear friend you haven’t seen for a while.

But this fascination with words lends itself to me pondering, which can be quite perplexing and downright frustrating at times. Mr. Kaminski hates it when I ponder as it typically leads to in depth conversations, which directly conflicts with his tv time.

A couple of years ago, I began a foray into audio books. Like I didn’t have enough books to read. I blame my GF Leslie on this one. She introduced me to the concept, and I bought it – hook, line and sinker.

As students head back to school and after-school sports practices kick into full gear amid near triple-digit temperatures across the Houston area, Houston Methodist experts are offering guidance on the new University Interscholastic League (UIL)’s heat safety rules and how student-athletes can stay safe in the extreme heat.

For the 2026-27 school year, UIL now requires schools to use Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) monitoring to assess outdoor conditions and determine whether modifications need to be made for practices, games and marching band activities. Previously, WBGT monitoring was recommended but not required.

I’ve often thought about the monotony of the seasons, especially as I have grown older and time seems to fly by like the speed of light. It seems that we just get through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, skid into Valentine’s Day, hop into Easter, then all of the sudden, we are back to getting ready for turkey days with July 4th décor still up.

I’ve also begun to mark the passing of time by the holidays. I feel like my life is a version of Steel Magnolias, jumping with warp speed from one occasion or holiday to the next. So, since I’m already marking the passage of my life with festive celebrations, I have personally decided to create a brand-new season. It’s called Footfall.

I’ve taken to my bed, precious Dolly is dead. Not only does that sound like a great hook for a sad country song, it is my current state. I am tore up.

Dolly Parton is a national treasure. So how in the best nation in the entire world did we let her go? We’ve got the best of the best in medicine, in facilities, in doctors. How did we let our sweet Dolly go?

I’m convinced God needed her, and I get that. Talk about bringing sunshine and love up above. I promise you, Dolly was God’s girl, and she was my fav from early childhood. Being full-grown and not blonde, I was enamored with the tiny little blonde goddess who sang from the heart and played the guitar with 2-inch-long fingernails.
