This was one of those days on set in which all the stars aligned.

I was cast as Featured Background. I’d be working with Phillipa Soo and Rosario Dawson.

It was a short scene. One camera. As featured background, I had no dialogue.

It was an early call. We were shooting in Shockhoe Bottom at a pharmacy. Just another day at the office.

Then while filming, I improvised a line. The director and show runner seemed to like what I’d done, so we went for another take. I was asked to improvise more dialogue. Another camera was brought in. They shot coverage. The short scene became a longer scene.

Now, what appeared when the episode aired was in the script. I was on screen for 2-3 seconds. Basically the shot you see below.

I’m on the show. I’m in the credits. I have great memories of a day in which I got to do what I love to do.

It’s a day we hope for as actors.

Did you know Gary Burghoff was the only actor to play the same major role in both the 1970 MASH movie and the subsequent TV series.

He would play Corporal Walter ‘Radar’ O’Reilly for seven seasons.

Imagine an alternate universe in which Jon Bernthal didn’t portray the character of Shane on The Walking Dead and, instead, Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown) had been cast.

It almost happened. In fact, Sheridan had moved along well in the audition process. Ultimately, he would lose the part to Bernthal.

Bernthal would portray the volatile character for two seasons and return for an appearance in a special episode.

Sheridan would later remark that losing the part "saved his ass.”

Not booking the role actually pushed him to transition from acting to full-time writing.

He would create mega-hit series like Landman, 1883, 1928 and Lioness.

His movies include: Hell Or High Water, Sicario and Wind River.

Things have a way of working themselves out some times.

On July 30, 1945, the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and sank in 12 minutes. Around 900 of the 1,196 men on board survived the initial sinking and drifted in the open Pacific for four and a half days, leading to what is documented as the worst and deadliest shark attack in history.

This event was famously recounted in the movie JAWS (1975) directed by Steven Spielberg as a monologue performed by Robert Shaw as Capt. Quint.
