🌩️ Monday Severe Weather Update — June 1, 2026
A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place today across parts of the Central High Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, and portions of the Southeast. The main hazards will be damaging wind gusts and large hail.
A long‑lived storm complex that began near St. Louis earlier this morning is moving southeast and has the potential to continue for much of the day. Areas from western Kentucky into middle Tennessee and north Georgia could see scattered areas of strong to damaging winds as this system rolls through.
Later today, very hot and saturated( read, disrespectful to those of us who have thick curly hair ) air will build up across Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama, creating an environment supportive of additional severe storms. Afternoon and evening storms may merge into clusters capable of widespread damaging winds and some hail, potentially reaching central MS and AL before weakening. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
Now for those of you in the Central High Plains, storms developing over Colorado will have the potential to become supercells capable of large to very large hail. As they move into western Kansas, they may organize into clusters with an increased damaging wind threat. Again, a tornado or two will be a possibility.
If you live in any of these regions, just keep your eyes peeled today and make sure you have multiple ways to receive warnings, a safe place to go if severe weather threatens, and a full battery on your phones and tablets, because if you’re anything like me, I always regret not having them fully charged during severe weather.
Stay safe, everyone. -Sarah
