Rites of passage are a huge deal. In my personal definition, they are joyous occasions. Sure, I realize that there are negative rites of passage, but I like my definition better as I choose to focus on them as a positive. I understand that they are transitional, in essence an event that changes a person’s life, and they are B-I-G!

Eighteen days into the new year, and I finally gave in. It was a bleak, rainy day. I was in dire straits. Two of the four major food groups were missing in the Kaminski household. Not to appear to be a wimp, the state of missing essentials – two items that I absolutely must have in order to survive – had been out of stock for four days, and I just couldn’t take it any longer. I had suffered as long as I could. A girl can only take so much.

Merry Christmas to all!

Growing up I was taught that it is better to give than to receive. And Mr. Kaminski and I, in turn, taught our children to be philanthropic – to share their time, talents and gifts with others. I remember when our babies were in pre-school, and they asked to have a Christmas party. Of course, we agreed, but we also told them that they needed to do something good with their idea. We explained that many children didn’t get gifts at Christmas, and we invited their friends to a party and to bring a toy for a child in need.
