RVAQueerlandia RVAQueerlandia building a safer, visible , and recognizable LGBTQIA community.

05/20/2015

Greetings All!

It has come to my attention that this page has been inactive for quite some time. The group was actively managed during the RVA Queerlandia stickers campaign, but has since become inactive when we finished giving away stickers. We've noticed that the group has certainly continued to grow steadily, presenting an opportunity to transform this social media space into an active organization that goes much much further than awesome stickers.

In addition to those awesome rainbow stickers, RVA Queerlandia was created with the goal of creating a safe place for the LBGTQIA community and bringing attention to the community's rich history in Richmond. Our vision was to transform a portion of Grace Street into a designated safe space, complete with signage as historic landmarkers to the LGBTQIA community.

What now? A call for an active administrator to power the revitalization, shape the vision, and complete the administrative gruntwork of RVA Queerlandia.

Please submit a statement to our inbox on why you should be the next RVA Queerlandia administrator including your ideas for vision, mission, strategies, etc. Please keep statements concise and less than a single page. Entries are by midnight June 5, 2015.

Voting will depend on the volume of statements received.

What's next for the group? I'm sure the new active administrator will take many polls regarding the direction of this group. Perhaps its better as just a social media space updating people on resources available in Richmond. Or maybe it will become a dynamic organization that fills in gaps in the LGBTQIA community. Or maybe, just maybe, one day Queerlandia will exist on Grace Street.

Cheers,

Kelly Hall

"Pier Kids: The Life examines the legacy of Stonewall and the Gay Rights Movement it ignites by following the lives of DeSean, Krystal, and Casper, three gay and transgender youth of color who have become homeless on the same street the riots took place more than forty years ago. Together, these three stories weave a complex narrative of love, family, exploitation, beauty, and hope. But it is more than a story of three. It is the story of thousands.

"Here are the descendants of the people in Paris is Burning, depicted by someone who’s lived the madness and can relate, first-hand, why this is an important New York story and an important American story. Join the community of people making this film a reality!"
- Jennie Livingston, director of Paris is Burning

As the film enters post-production, we have to edit down over two hundred hours of footage into a feature-length film, color balance the footage, sound mix it, and so much more.

We need your help. Please consider donating to our Kickstarter if you can and/or reblogging to signal boost!"-GayDTR
