Why Macys celebrates the thanksgiving parade?? The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade started in 1924 as the “Macy’s Christmas Parade,” organized by immigrant employees to celebrate the holiday season and promote the newly expanded flagship store, featuring live animals from the Central Park Zoo and ending with Santa’s arrival. It became an annual tradition, adding giant balloons like Felix the Cat in 1927 and growing into a national spectacle broadcast on TV, evolving from a local event to a beloved, star-studded kickoff for the holidays, though it faces cancellations and route changes over the decades.
