There are a few days left to enter the Countian's Shop Local Selfie contest for a chance to win $500! Just snap a selfie in one of the great local businesses in Riley, Leonardville, Randolph, Olsburg, Keats or Green and email it to [email protected]. No purchase is necessary. You can have more than one entry per person, but only one per business per person. I will draw at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20 and notify the winner immediately. You can't win if you don't enter, and who couldn't use an extra $500 this time of year??

Okay, we are set! A Cruise Night honoring all area 2020 graduates Saturday, June 6, 6-8 p.m. on Broadway Street in Riley. From classic cars to golf carts, from motorcycles to the family cruiser, come on out and celebrate the class of 2020! Decorate your vehicle if you would like, or invite a graduate to ride along. I've ordered a cake and Hiland Dairy is donating ice cream again. We'll observe the social distancing protocols while still showing our graduates some home-town love and support. Invite your friends, and especially make sure the graduates know and come. Hope to see you there!

So, next week I will turn 35 (for the 22nd time). We're planning to do the Cruise Night Saturday night again, and offer the same discounts as this Saturday - a discount equal to the age of your classic car, or 20% for everyone else. PLUS, we'll be serving free cake and ice cream in front of the restaurant for everybody that comes. Hiland Dairy, such a great community partner, is donating the ice cream, which we appreciate so very much! Hope to see you next Saturday night. Tell your friends!

How about an old-fashioned Saturday night cruise down Broadway in Riley tonight? Classic cars will get a discount equal to the age of the vehicle on regularly priced orders at Gambino's Pizza. Everybody else, 20% off regularly priced orders. We'll start at 6. Come on out, drive up and down the street and give a big old wave to your friends and neighbors. Snap some pictures and email them to [email protected]. Of course, I'll be there taking pictures too, this will just make sure I don't miss something cool. Hope to see you tonight!!

All of this time at home brought on by the coronavirus probably has many of you working on some hobbies and crafts you haven’t had time for in awhile. We would love to share those with the community! Send us your photos and brief explanations and we will print them all as space allows. Don’t be shy! Whatever your age, whatever your talents or interests, we want to celebrate it with you! With school cancelled, the Countian still has school and sports pages to fill. How about you parents that are now educating your kids at home, send us pictures, tips, and ideas of how you're making it work? Whether it's classroom or physical fitness activities. Email them to [email protected]. All submissions will be published and entered into a drawing for a family pizza party to be drawn for at the end of May.

Last call for this year's Countian on Vacation contest! We will draw for a winner this Saturday. Photos received after this Friday at 5 p.m. will be entered in the 2018-2019 contest. We've been to lots of fun places this year and would like to thank everyone who has participated!

It seems there has been some confusion about where the Countian will be mailed from in the future. We have changed the printing of it to the Manhattan Mercury, but the mailing will still be from the Riley Post Office.

Send us a photo of your Mom along with her name and one of her favorite sayings or “Momisms” you most remember. You can also include a brief description of what makes her most special.
