Children’s Institute to hold autism conference Oct. 24 in Dalton
The Anna Shaw Children’s Institute (ASCI), part of Vitruvian Health, will host the 10th annual North Georgia Autism Conference on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Dalton Convention Center, 2211 Tony Ingle Parkway in Dalton. The conference typically brings together about 500 individuals from surrounding areas.
Elizabeth Bonker, international advocate for Nonspeakers with Autism and founder of Communication4All, will be the keynote speaker. Her May 2022 valedictorian commencement address at Rollins College went viral on social media.
“We are excited to continue our mission in providing a well-rounded conference with presentations to help increase functional skill development and decrease behavioral challenges to ensure individuals with autism can live enriched, successful lives,” said Lindsey Coker, educational resource coordinator.
The event is intended for parents, caregivers, educators, professionals, medical providers, young adults on the autism spectrum, self-advocates and other interested individuals.
The conference provides multiple tracks to provide education in support of people who are caregivers or who work with those on the autism spectrum. The event includes the latest studies, findings, strategies and treatments for those on the autism spectrum. Presentations are also designed to help advance the skills of professionals and others working with the autism community, in addition to showcasing autism-related service providers and other organizations in the community.
