The New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot (NBCWP) is a five-year initiative launched in November 2022 by the provincial government of New Brunswick in collaboration with the federal government of Canada. This employer-driven program aims to address labor shortages in various sectors, including manufacturing, fisheries, food production, forestry, and farming, by attracting skilled workers to occupations that have been challenging to fill in the province.
Participating Employers:
The pilot involves six selected employers known for their effective immigrant recruitment practices and commitment to supporting new employees' settlement and integration:
Cooke Aquaculture
Groupe Savoie Inc.
Groupe Westco
Imperial Manufacturing Group
J.D. Irving Ltd.
McCain Foods
These employers are responsible for providing settlement plans, language training, and support for obtaining Canadian secondary education equivalency, ensuring a smooth transition for newcomers.
Application Process:
As the NBCWP is employer-driven, individual candidates cannot apply directly to the program. Instead, applications are submitted through the participating employers. The general steps are as follows:
1. Secure a Job Offer: Obtain a genuine, full-time, permanent employment offer from one of the participating employers.
2. Expression of Interest (EOI): After accepting a job offer, create and submit an EOI through the Immigration New Brunswick (INB) portal. Keep your profile updated with any changes in personal circumstances, as failure to do so may result in application refusal.
3. Invitation to Apply (ITA): If your EOI is successful, you'll receive an ITA from the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP). You must submit a complete application within 45 days of receiving the ITA.
4. Application Submission: Submit your application to the Government of New Brunswick for review and verification. They may conduct an interview to confirm the information provided.
5. Nomination and Work Permit: If approved, you'll receive a nomination certificate and a work permit support letter, allowing you to apply for permanent residency and a work permit from the federal government.
6. Permanent Residency Application: With the nomination certificate, apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.
7. Decision from IRCC: Await the final decision on your permanent residency application from IRCC.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must meet specific requirements, including:
Age: Between 19 and 55 years old.
Education: At least a high school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience: A minimum of 1,560 hours of work experience over one year.
Language Proficiency: Meeting language requirements set by the Canadian government.
Intent to Reside: A demonstrated commitment to living in New Brunswick.
For more detailed information on eligibility and the application process, refer to the official guide provided by the Government of New Brunswick.
By following these steps and meeting the eligibility criteria, skilled workers can pursue opportunities in New Brunswick through the Critical Worker Pilot Program, contributing to the province's economic growth while achieving their own career and settlement goals.
