On April 24th at 2:30pm join the Riversdale Chamber Music Society for its closing event of the season at the Riversdale Mansion. This year we have teamed up with five local filmmakers to produce five films for the music of Sergie Prokofiev. Featuring University of Maryland School of Music faculty and students, this production will present the Quintet of Sergie Prokofiev written in 1924 for Oboe, Clarinet, Violin, Viola and Bass. Unlike many film productions, these five filmmakers have been asked to create their films to fit the music. Each filmmaker, working independently of each other but with the same score, has been asked to create a film they believe reflects this work.
What will each filmmaker hear when they listen to the quintet?
A biting and thorny work with intense rhythmic movement, much like last season’s performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The music is highly chromatic, melodically angular, and filled with melodic figures that are frequently repeated. The work can be abrasive, and unapologetic in its dissonance and unrelenting attitude.
After the performance don’t miss a wonderful reception sponsored by Zeke’s Coffee and Riverdale Town Center Market. Besides the great coffee you will have chance to mingle and meet the filmmakers and musicians.
