We engage and encourage people to behold and follow Jesus Christ. That day he met Jesus.
Founded in 1934, Haven Ministries has always had a simple mission: to tell the world all about Jesus. It started on an early foggy morning in 1934, when Paul Myers, a former Los Angeles radio personality and station manager of leading radio stations woke up near a wharf in San Diego. Hungover, he heard the sound of a ship’s bell ring out eight times at 4:00 a.m., signaling “all’s well.” It was a S
unday morning and Myers knew that all was not well with him. He got up and spent his last pennies on a small breakfast instead of more alcohol and went to church. He was turned away because of his appearance but went back to his cheap hotel room and started reading the Gideon’s Bible. Only one month later, Myers was back on the radio, but this time, sharing his new-found faith. He founded a Christian radio program called, “Haven of Rest” that began each program with the words he heard the day of his salvation,
“AHOY THERE SHIPMATE … EIGHT BELLS AND ALL’S WELL.”
Today, the daily broadcast – called HAVEN Today – airs on more than 650 stations in North America and around the world with a daily listenership of over 500,000. In addition, the printed ANCHOR Devotional encourages thousands through print to live their lives in real rest and peace, in Christ. In January, 2015, Anchor Today, launched as a one minute audio version of the daily devotional. Voiced by Charles Morris, Anchor Today is heard on about 450 stations across North America. In February of 2018, Haven Ministries started our first ever Spanish-speaking radio program for believers and non-believers alike. El Faro de Redención, or “Redemption Lighthouse” is voiced by Danny Rojas. It began on a 500,000 watt station on the Caribbean island of Bonaire and covers the entire nation of Cuba. El Faro now reaches into more than 30 countries around the world every day where Spanish is the primary language spoken and heard.

Names of God often show up on wall art, coffee mugs, and devotional books. Yet rarely do we encounter “El Kanna,” the Hebrew name of God which means “Jealous God.” Dr. Erik Thoennes joins David Wollen for a discussion about why this name of God is so important for Christians to understand the faithful love of God for his people.

What does it mean that God is El Shaddai—God Almighty?
It’s the name He first revealed to Abraham in Genesis 17, when the promise of a son seemed impossible. And it’s a name that reminds us today of His power to fulfill every promise, even when hope seems out of reach.
Today, David Wollen reflects on what it means to trust El Shaddai—the all-powerful, all-sufficient God who still works through the impossible.

“For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation” (Psalm 62:1)
In this verse, we see a posture of dependence on God’s grace. Prayer isn’t only for moments of crisis, but it’s a daily turning of our hearts toward the Lord who alone saves and sustains.
Whether you’re sitting at your kitchen table, stepping outside for a walk, or pausing during your day, moments of prayer are an act of faith. In them, we are reminded of the Gospel: we don’t come to God based on our performance, but through Christ, our Mediator and High Priest.
So take time today to be still before the Lord. Not because you must earn His favor, but because, in Christ, you are already welcomed. Let the Psalms guide your prayers. Let quietness deepen your trust. And let His Word anchor your soul.

The Psalms show us how to pray with honesty.
From joy and praise to sorrow and lament, Scripture invites us to bring our whole selves before the Lord, questions and all. These ancient prayers don't hide the hard things. They’re real, raw, and deeply relational.
This week’s blog reminds us how quiet prayer and the Psalms help us draw near to God in every season.

When we say that it's "all about Jesus," we are simply repeating what God's Word says about Jesus. All of the Old Testament anticipates Him, the Gospels celebrate His coming, and the New Testament proclaims His return. When we read God's Word, the Holy Spirit reveals Him. And the Bible promises that one day "every knee will bow" to Him. Therefore ... we are "All About Jesus."
Founded in 1934, we share the Great Story that’s All About Jesus on more than 600 stations in North America with an estimated 2,000,000+ listeners each week. To hear our daily messages, timely content, and Christ-centered interviews, you can subscribe to our podcast on iTunes, download the Haven Today app, or stream episodes directly from our website at www.HavenToday.org.
About Our History
A well-known and respected Los Angeles radio personality in the early 1930’s, Paul Myers’ life was out of control. His success had brought him no happiness and his alcoholism had even forced his wife to kick him out, though she continued to pray for his salvation and recovery.
Reduced to the life of a homeless alcoholic, Paul Myers sought refuge in a San Diego church service. After being turned away because of his repellent and drunken appearance, Myers went back to his cheap hotel and started reading the Gideon Bible. Convicted of his sin and devastated by his circumstances, he sought forgiveness and professed faith in Christ. One month later he was back on the radio, but this time as a broken man saved by grace — it was 1934 and The Haven of Rest radio broadcast had begun.
Since that time, God has used this ministry to bring thousands to faith in Christ. Now called HAVEN Today, the daily broadcast airs on more than 600 stations in North America and around the world. Through the Anchor daily devotional guide, thousands more are encouraged each day to live their lives through Christ and for Christ.
Haven Ministries is united with one common purpose . . . to tell the Great Story that’s all about Jesus.
About Charles Morris
As Speaker and President of Haven Ministries, Charles Morris brings a rich background to Christian radio from secular media. Starting his career as a broadcast news reporter, he then worked as an editor and bureau chief for United Press International. He also served as press secretary for two former U.S. Senators in addition to owning and managing a radio station.
While in seminary in Philadelphia, he began consulting and then worked as an assistant to the late Dr. James Montgomery Boice before coming to Haven as the ministry’s fourth speaker in 2000. Now as the leader of the 84-year-old radio ministry, Charles is always thinking of ways to lead Christians and non-Christians to Christ – hence the familiar slogan, “Telling the great story … it’s all about Jesus.”
Charles, and his wife Janet, have co-authored several books including Saving a Life, Jesus in the Midst of Success, Missing Jesus, and Charles’ most recent book, Fleeing ISIS, Finding Jesus. They have three children and are also the proud grandparents of Charlotte, Gracie, Ricky and Charlie.
