ICYMI: "Utah-based Purple Innovation is Closing its Two Manufacturing Plants in Utah, Will Layoff Approximately 13% of its Staff, and Expects Restructuring Costs of $35 Million to $45 Million."

If all you want is the headline, there you go.

If you're looking for the rest of the story, however, then please turn to Utah Money Watch to read https://www.utahmoneywatch.com/utah-based-purple-innovation-is-closing-its-two-manufacturing-plants-in-utah-will-lay-off-approximately-13-percent-of-its-staff-and-expects-restructuring-costs-of-35-million-to-45-milli/.

Thanks.

And for you execs and pros out there, the Utah Department of Workforce Services recently reported that the state's rate was 3.2% in July 2024.

That translates into more job openings than people looking for work.

That said, hopefully these newly workers can find new positions ASAP. 🙏 🙏 🙏

NEWS: The Boeing Company has been Awarded a New Hill Air Force Base Contract Valued at $559 Million over a Five-Year Period.

To get an overview, please check out my on Utah Money Watch here: https://www.utahmoneywatch.com/boeing-has-been-awarded-a-new-hill-air-force-base-contract-valued-at-559-million-dollars-over-a-five-year-period/.

NOTE: The photo shows two Boeing employees inspecting test equipment on a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile guidance set and propulsion system hardware at the Little Mountain Test Facility of Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah. (Photo downloaded from Boeing website 15 April 2024.)

To be clear, Boeing has been running HAFB's Little Mountain Test Facility for 50 years, so it's not like it was a surprise that Boeing won the "new" contract.

That said, $599 million is still $599 million, which pencils out to just under $120MM per year, much of which will likely be pumped into the local economy.

WHY was Bill.com willing to spend $2.5 billion to DIVVY? That IS the real question.

As it turns out, there are 25 TRILLION reasons why this purchase makes sense for .com!

By acquiring , Bill.com doubles the size of its North American (Total Addressable Market) to $25 Trillion.

In other words, by only spending 1/10,000th of its new total TAM, .com 2Xed its . Sounds like a screaming deal to me!

How much money do you need? Really? Well, if you're CEO of a company, turns out you'll need to raise billions of dollars to have a chance of being successful.

So although -based Recursion had already raised over $450 million in in its 8 year history, it's not surprising that this -driven company announced last week its plans for an .

My take on this announcement, and why I believe Recursion is going to succeed, are summarized in this week's in-depth Feature Story titled "Recursion Pharma is Going Public."

Much of Utah's business community is twitter-pated today after the Milken Institute released its "Best-Performing Cities 2021 Report" yesterday that ranked as the No. 1 "Large City" in its report (with and ranked as No. 4 and No. 9, respectively).

And based upon why these cities are ranked, it's a great past performance indicator, worthy of chest-thumping and backslapping.

However, if all one did was skimmed the surface of the Report, you would have missed the fact that two other cities also made the grade:
🔹 , Utah and
🔹 , Utah
within the Report's ranking of the Best-Performing Small Cities, with Logan coming in at No. 2 and St. George coming in at No. 4.

But ... Deseret Business Watch includes such information in today's in-depth feature story. Plus we also dig into the What, Why, and How Utah was transformed from being a "flyover state" into a "destination state" in the past 50 years.

For all of the details, please visit https://davidpolitis.substack.com/p/five-utah-metros-recognized.

And thanks in advance.

Do you have a favorite drink from Swig? Turns out that before this week I had NEVER (yeah, never) had a drink from Swig. LOL

So ... I recorded a "live" taste-test of 5 sodas from Swig this week, and I shared this vid as part of my deep-dive, feature story titled "Swig Shoots for Soda Supremacy" which was published yesterday on Deseret Business Watch. (You can read it here: https://davidpolitis.substack.com/p/swig-shoots-for-soda-supremacy.)

So if you haven't done so yet, I invite you to check out the story (and taste test).

And if you like it, I hope you'll sign-up for a Free Subscription. Thanks.

P.S. I now have a Favorite drink and a Least Favorite drink from Swig. Any guesses?
