What Coffee saw in the wilderness, he’ll never be able to share. But 11 days after he went missing, he’s home: A little skinnier for the experience, and with a veterinarian appointment scheduled just to be sure, but with no apparent injuries. After more than a week in the mountains, the young standard poodle is back to his life at home in Lander.

While the Lander Royal Softball game was a bit lopsided in a 7-2 win by the Silver Crowns, the score was inconsequential. Born out of Senior Babe Ruth’s rodeo baseball game and out of a desire for softball players to have something just as fun, the Royal game entered its second year this past weekend.

For more than 320 days, Brian King-Henke has woken up with a fist clenched around his heart. His first thoughts as he opens his eyes are of his son, Austin King, who has been missing since he reached the summit of Eagle Peak in Yellowstone National Park last year on September 17.

Now, a crew is about to embark into some of the most rugged territory in the park, intent on bringing Austin home.

“Where the rails end, and the trails begin”: This statement remains the slogan for the town of Lander, yet nearly all traces of the railroad have faded from sight. The few vestiges point to an exciting point in our history, and to the arduous work, time, money, and energy that once went into obtaining such an achievement. But whatever became of the railroad?

Tuesdays through the month of July, the click-clack of rolling dice and the sound of busy gameplay could be heard in the Lander Library. A dragon roared; a cleric reached out a hand of healing; at one point, a character was guided back from the brink of death to cast the finishing blow in a climactic battle.

At the Wyoming Fringe Festival this coming weekend, the lobby of Casper’s Lyric theater will be filled with sound and excitement – except for one quiet corner, where Oakley Boycott will sit, perfectly still and perfectly silent.

Fremont County has enacted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for all unincorporated areas, a move prompted by dry conditions, heavy fuel loads, and a recent spike in fire activity across the region. The decision came during a Fremont County Commission special meeting July 30, following a formal recommendation from County Fire Warden Ron Wempen.

In July, a bill narrowly passed the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resource on a 19-20 vote along party lines. All proposed amendments to the bill failed, and it advanced to the U.S. House of Representatives for debate and voting as-written: Grizzly bears will be delisted, the bill declares, and that decision is not to be subject to judicial review.

For the 45th year running, the Annual Red Desert Audubon Art Show at the Lander Art Center (LAC) will open its doors on July 31. Showcasing the work of 24 local artists, this year’s exhibition is varied and distinguished, a look through the eyes of gifted observers of Wyoming landscapes, and specifically, the Red Desert.

At the center of the Lander Art Center gallery, a large ceramic bowl made by Jenny Reeves-Johnson sits on a podium, its exterior etched with detailed scenes of antelope and
