ROBBINSVILLE ROUTS DELAWARE TO REACH LITTLE WORLD SERIES FOR 5TH TIME
BRISTOL, Conn. - (via Shore News Network) - The Robbinsville Little League Girls' 12 softball remained perfect in the postseason Thursday with a resounding 12-1 victory over Delaware to capture the East Regional Championship and advance to its fifth World Series.
After a close 6-5 contest against Connecticut in the regional opener, The 2014 World Champions defeated New York 6-1 and shutout Delaware 10-0, to advance to title round.
In the championship game, Robbinsville jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first.
Brynn Hopkins’ double to center field scored Ella Iorio, followed by a single by Alexa Klepper to bring in Hopkins. Kailey Pacifico then sacrificed to score Sofia Papa, who pinchran for Klepper.
In the second inning, Hopkins struck again with a bases loaded double that drove in Iorio, Martin and Becca Siracusa and the rout was on.
On the mound, Hopkins dominated and wiggled out of potential trouble in the fourth and final inning to seal the win for head coach Jon Iorio.
Robbinsville will open play on Thursday, August 11 against Europe-Africa in Game 8 at Alpenrose Stadion in Portland, Oregon.
Robbinsville previously appeared at the World Series in 2014, 2013, 2010 and 2008.
