The Village of Oblong Board of Trustees did not pass a non-home rule municipal retailer’s occupation tax and a non-home rule municipal service occupation tax for the village during its Dec. 3 meeting after hearing concerns from a number of business owners.

Following a strong start to the season, Robinson High School’s boys’ basketball team had a rough go of it over the weekend.

The Maroons lost a pair of games over the weekend, dropping their Little Illini Conference opener at Olney Friday, 67-50 and falling to Carlisle County, Ky., 62-42, at the Cuss Wilson Classic Saturday at Marion High School.

It was a banner day for Robinson High School’s wrestling team Saturday and resulted in a quite a bit of hardware.

The Maroons had eight wrestlers place among the top-four in their respective weight classes, which led to RHS finishing second out of 13 teams at the Lawrence County Tournament.

Crawford County will again ask voters to approve a 1% sales tax to reduce local emergency services’ reliance on property taxes.

The county board has voted to add a referendum asking permission to establish a public safety sales tax to the March primary ballot. The vote was taken during a special meeting Nov. 24 with Tim Bennett casting the sole nay vote.

Tourism money will mean more ups and downs for Robinson’s 2026 Daffodil Festival, but that’s a good thing.

The Robinson City Council voted Nov. 25 to use tourism money to bring a Ferris wheel to the annual festival. The aldermen are also donating tourism funds to an upcoming basketball tournament.
