It is with heavy hearts that the Rochelle Illinois Police Department announces the passing of retired K9 Axel.

K9 Axel served with honor and distinction alongside his devoted handler, Sgt. Beery. Together, they formed an unbreakable bond and an elite partnership protecting the public and exemplifying the very best of our department.

Throughout his decorated career, Axel played a critical role in numerous operations, including high-risk patrols, narcotics investigations, school safety checks, and search and recovery assignments. He was a fierce protector, a loyal partner, and a trusted friend.

Axel’s legacy will live on not only through his many accomplishments, but in the hearts of those who had the privilege of working beside him. To Sgt. Beery and his family, we extend our deepest gratitude and sympathy, your dedication and love for Axel were evident in every assignment and every moment.

Please join us in keeping Axel’s handler, his family, and the Rochelle Police Department in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Rest easy, Axel.
We will never forget you, good boy.
