Movement is back at Hart Plaza for its 20th anniversary — and Detroit is celebrating like the birthplace of techno it is. Mayor Sheffield just made it official: this is Detroit Techno Week.

But the weekend doesn’t stop at the riverfront.

There’s an ’80s prom in Ferndale, a flower market in downtown Northville, Pete Davidson at the Fillmore, and day parties spilling into the alleys of downtown all four days. Throw in art fairs, carnival rides in Shelby Township, a lakefront memorial ceremony in Grosse Pointe, and parades in every suburb — then pause Monday morning to honor the ones who made all of this possible.

When we named Cayden Brown a SEEN Changemaker award winner in 2024, he was 17 years old — still in high school, still too young to vote — and already standing on the podium of the United Nations speaking on behalf of young people who had no one else in their corner, as a teen court defense attorney and founder of The Trespass Project.

He told us then that age was irrelevant when it came to making a difference. He has spent everyday since proving it.

Now 19, Cayden has graduated, is pursuing his degree at University of Detroit Mercy, and continues building the Trespass Project into a global force for youth justice. And today, he added one more chapter to a story that started when he was just 6 years old, sitting in a courtroom, waiting for someone to ask how he felt.

Nobody did. So he wrote the book.

The Kid in the Courtroom is Cayden’s debut childrens picture. Ok — and it is exactly the resource he wished he had all those years ago.

We are so proud to have played even a small part in his journey, and so honored to keep telling it.
