Horology Republic

Horology Republic Small media outlet focusing on horology and the people you meet in the avocation. Veteran owned. Life through the lens of horology.

The journey our timepieces take with us doesn’t end once we’ve brought them home. On the contrary, that’s when it’s just beginning. Our pieces witness life’s most incredible moments and have stories all their own. At Horology Republic, we bring these stories to life and share them with everyone in the avocation.

We went to discover last night and experience a little local fun. Our aim was to see if it might be a good hideaway for some watch meetups and boy, they really nailed it. From the wonderful staff showing us around with some behind-the-scenes views to Gio himself stopping by to talk with us, it was a wonderful experience.

We know there are a bunch of fellow watch folks in Rochester, and we’re determined to bring horological gatherings the respect they deserve. Vanni’s is definitely our new dig for this and we can’t wait to get the first meetup off the ground in the very near future!

Pick the correct book from the shelf and you are in to the lovely speakeasy-style “back room” where you’ll have your choice of themed drinks, small plates to snack on, and live jazz! What more could you ask for? We’re very excited to focus our efforts here!

What’s more, one of the guys sitting next to us as we discussed this with Gio had his Tudor and we immediately connected to chat watches. So much fun to pop in and check it out and end up having a mini watch meetup! Must be a sign that this is, indeed, the right spot. It was excellent meeting Aaron, who runs his very own coffee-focused podcast: Dialed In, A Coffee Podcast. We recommend giving it a listen if Java is your brew!

Cannot wait for what’s next!

There are a lot of folks who say “use your tools” and probably just as many who say “I got my first scratch, I need some help!”

is one of those guys who understands that his watches are made to be worn, even in precious metal. Scratches, dings, dents, and bumps are all part of the journey our watches take with us, and Kurt is no stranger to sharing the story of his pieces, as he does in our members group. While it’s nice to have a pristine Submariner, the real flex is showing that yours saw all of life’s incredible moments with you. Tossing a watch in a safe really isn’t the best look when your limited time on this rock continues to tick away, and this kind of post is meant to highlight that.

Take your watch either you, wear it, and let life help to tell its story. Kind of an “almost forgot this is the whole point” type of thing. Keeping forward and take a little inspiration from Kurt who doesn’t let a few scratches or dents get him down.

If you haven’t already given us a listen:

Wristwatch podcasts are usually background noise. This one punches you in the throat, kisses your cheek, and pours you a Negroni.

Horology Republic isn’t just a watch podcast—it’s a narrative dive through obsessions, contradictions, and the culture around these tiny machines we strap to our wrists. It’s what would happen if Anthony Bourdain ran a watch magazine. There’s tension. There’s truth. There’s storytelling that goes way beyond reference numbers.

👉 This week’s episode: “Life & Watches” hits different. We’re talking real stories behind the steel, why some watches haunt you, and why your taste probably sucks (until it doesn’t).

🧠 If you’ve ever bought a watch because it “felt right,” you’re one of us.
🥃 If you think Swiss Made is a lie, pull up a chair.
📉 If you’re tired of influencers in gloves reading off spec sheets… welcome home.

🎙️ Available on Apple Podcasts + Spotify. Link in bio.
💬 Comment your current daily wear. Let’s see what people are really strapping on.

What does the algorithm think of Seamaster owners?

📣 Fellow Seamaster Owners, It’s Time for a Little Self-Reflection 😎
Let’s be honest with ourselves for a moment.
Owning an OMEGA Seamaster is basically the horological equivalent of saying,
“I like nice things, but I also read the reviews.”
We’re out here flexing value retention like it’s a personality trait.
You know it’s true—most of us found our watch because we Googled “Best Swiss Watch That Isn’t a Rolex” and fell in love when we saw Daniel Craig pop out of the ocean with abs and a coaxial escapement.
Every Seamaster owner ever:
“Sure, I could have bought a Submariner, but I’m not like the other guys.”
Sir, you’re wearing a NATO strap and an OMEGA baseball cap to brunch.
We all claim “understated elegance,” yet we have HEV valves poking out the side like a nostril piercing and bezels that click louder than our knees after 30.
And don’t even pretend we aren’t all secretly thrilled when someone says:

“Is that a Rolex?”
No. It’s BETTER—it's an in-house movement with a METAS cert, Karen.

We preach specs like gospel:

300m water resistance (because apparently we’re diving to Atlantis)
Master Chronometer rating (for our precision timing at the coffee shop)
Antimagnetic to 15,000 gauss (just in case we walk too close to a microwave)

And let’s not forget:
We all say we bought it “to fly under the radar.”
But somehow we end up on IG, in a Bond tee, sipping Pinot Noir and tagging like we’re auditioning to be the next MI6 intern.
💬 But here’s the truth...
We picked a watch that gives us a ton of horological cred without the pretension.
OMEGA owners are passionate, well-informed, and just a little unhinged in the best way.
We don’t need the crown—we’ve got the wave dial, baby.
🫡 So here’s to us:
The over-researchers, the forum lurkers, the Bond fans, the “I’ll take mine with a NATO and a side of lume shots” crowd.
We are Seamaster owners—coaxial-core, helium-valve-loving, specs-quoting maniacs.
And honestly?
Wouldn’t have it any other way. 💙

Is summer 2025 the summer of gold? Maybe.

Seems like this is the go-to watchmaking metal this season and it’s a topic we explored in our latest podcast episode (on Apple Podcasts and Spotify). Maybe there’s just something about the glimmer and heft of gold that draws us in. Who knows?

Is gold in your list this summer? Let us know!

Shiny wrist candy from the recent RedBar Orlando meetup. A good friend of our media endeavor, Alex, enjoyed the event and shared quite a few photos with us! More to come today and this week.

"There's no such thing as a clean watch" - Dr. Hollay

Often, we spend a lot of time making sure the watches in our photos are as pristine as they can be. Many photographers go to great lengths to get the shots just right and create a magical image which garners lots of attention. They put in the work and tend to get the recognition they deserve for it.

But life isn't wonderfully squeaky clean. It's dirty, complex, messy, and uneven. Our watches, works of art though they are, reflect that when they're living life right next to us. Scratches and dents are part of the experience and as much as countless other YouTube Channels and IG Accounts tell you to "use your tools," most people still try to hide the marks of everyday life in their shots. That, to us, leaves out the best parts of the stories. Every bump, bruise, scratch, and dent are a moment in time that's been lived and experienced. These are what make our watches uniquely ours with the individual wear patterns we develop with them over the years. To that end, we raise our glasses for a life well lived and a watch well worn. Cheers to Friday!

Wear your pieces in good health but don't make every piece a safe queen. We're all meant to enjoy the time we have on this Earth, make sure you leave your mark.

We're recording another Podcast episode tonight, so if you haven't yet taken a listen to the many episodes that already exist, look us up on Apple Podcasts and Spotify (just search Horology Republic)!

Jeff, a member of our Seamaster group on Facebook, showed us his new Seamaster he just picked up. Pretty great choice, we’d say. So glad to see the waves back!

What do you think of the new Seamaster line?

One of the folks we’ve been lucky enough to have in the group is SC Fong. He shares his IWC adventures with us and continues to contribute to the group almost daily. And, let me tell you, friends, what a collection this man has!

From gorgeous pilots watches to unique pieces, he is a die-hard IWC fan and we are grateful to him for sharing his knowledge and passion with our members. What a joy it is to have so many people in our circles who continue to show us new things and share experiences.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again here: you truly meet the best people through watches.
