It’s funny how the toys we choose as kids can say a lot about the adults (and even producers) we become. For me it was all about K’nex (and eventually very dangerous pulley systems). Point being as a producer I’ve become super methodical in my approach to record production much as I was methodical with my approach to building with K’nex. That being said, I was (and still am) not afraid to burn it all down and build it anew if needed. Third grade Josh building a massive big ball factory and loading it into Dad’s pick up for show and tell was just as audacious as 35 year old Josh making gutsy, tight recordings.

I’ll be completely transparent… there are some artists that I simply cannot make happy! The funniest part is that as a producer I usually know during the first phone call or initial consult that it’s gonna be a rough road ahead. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and move forward, can’t win ‘em all!

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to go back in time and experience two different listening experiences in my musical journey. The first was hearing for the first time the second was seeing a speaker pop to . Both experiences are seared into my mind and are inextricably linked to how I think about and produce music.

There are 3! Count ‘em THREE core values which I consider to be the BEDROCK of my production philosophy. They are in essence the GUIDING LIGHT by which I am able to navigate productions with my clients, shepherding them through the storm.

1. Leave no stone unturned.
2. Nothing is sacred.
3. Swing for the fences, every time.

You gotta listen to PAPA! Nurturing new talent is half music, half reality check. You gotta make sure that new artists aren't trying to win the Tour de France with the damn training wheels still on. When artists take notes from an established killer, they make improvements and make better music. Better songs, better sound, more bookings, and most importantly, more f**kin DOUGH!
