We put the FREE into Freedom Festival!

Admission to this two-day extravaganza is free, and all of the entertainment is too. The only time you'll open your wallet is to buy food and drink, used books to support the Bristol Library, or local products from the vendors who are exhibiting.

We were able to do this with LOTS of volunteer labor. Planning began almost four years ago, when the call from state officials went out to town historians urging them to plan events celebrating America's 250th. Beth Thomas, town historian for Bristol and South Bristol, and Leif HerrGesell, town historian for Canandaigua, decided to collaborate and began mapping out the event that begins this Saturday. Eventually a committee formed, with Tom Stevens, the Bristol parks commissioner; Laura Abplanalp, Bristol supervisor; Lisa Moore, South Bristol supervisor, and others from Canandaigua and the Bristols, from the Ontario County Historical Society, and Cu***ng Nature Center.

Thanks to a generous budget appropriation from Canandaigua, supported by supervisor Don Cotter, and with certain expenses underwritten by the town of Bristol, we have been able to pay some of the performers, rent a large tent and portapotties, and promote the event across the region.

Now we hope the community will come and enjoy all that this festival offers — for free!

Meet Arwyn — an amazing Rochester School for the Deaf 6th grader now representing New York in the new PBS KIDS series, AMERICA’S AWESOME KIDS!

Released today, the national series celebrates children from across the country by highlighting their passions, communities, and everyday lives.

The episode follows Arwyn around Rochester — at home, at her schools, dancing in the community, participating in Scouts, and spending time on RSD’s beautiful campus alongside classmates and friends. It’s a wonderful glimpse into the life of a vibrant Deaf young person growing, learning, and thriving in our community.

We could not be prouder to see Arwyn representing RSD, Rochester, the Deaf community, and New York on a national stage. 💙🧡

Watch the series online at PBS KIDS and help us celebrate this awesome achievement!
