Brandon Mitchell Sentenced to 33 Years to Life for Reckless Second-Degree Murder

Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella announces that today, Brandon Mitchell (age 23), was sentenced in Carroll County Superior Court to 33 years to life in the New Hampshire State Prison for one count of reckless second-degree murder in connection with the November 30, 2022, shooting death of Esmae Doucette, age 23, in Jackson, New Hampshire.

The sentence includes a minimum term of 33 years and a maximum term of life imprisonment. Under the terms of the sentence, Mitchell is eligible to petition to suspend 4 years of the minimum term if he accrues no major disciplinary infractions during the first five years of incarceration. This sentencing follows Mitchell’s guilty plea on June 11, 2025.

This case was investigated by the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit and the Jackson Police Department. It was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Attorney General Nicholas Chong Yen and Assistant Attorney General Brian Greklek-McKeon, with support from Director of Victim/Witness Assistance Lynda Ruel and Victim Witness Specialist Courtney Sirois.
