Classic Country Weekend with Tom Tracy

Classic Country Weekend with Tom Tracy Classic country music Saturdays 7:00-10:00 AM on Rochester Free Radio 106.3 FM I grew up listening to the music I now get to play for you each week.

A lifelong country music fan, I first started in radio 40 years ago. My experience includes being a disc jockey at stations whose formats included Country, Top 40, and Oldies. Other broadcasting experience includes news, sports and traffic. In addition to radio I have worked the night club scene, operated a private DJ business, and have emceed special events for entertainers including Josie Waverl

y and Terry Lee Goffey. Now, I have the privilege to take that experience and put together a show for you each week that features the very best in classic country. Each week, my goal is to entertain you with great music interspersed with occasional stories about the artists and their music. My objective is to give YOU a reason to WANT to tune in to Classic Country Weekend by providing a unique show that isn't quite like anything else.

Coming up this morning on this weeks edition of Classic Country Weekend with Tom Tracy...

You can never go wrong when you start off the day with George Jones, and we will do just that with a Top 10 hit from 1981 off of his "I Am What I Am" album. We'll have a big hit from 1963 by a gentleman who would have turned 88 years old today, plus we will take time to remember a country music legend who passed away 50 years ago today.

Early on in the second hour we'll have a song that spent 32 weeks on the country charts including 12 consecutive weeks at #1. Later in the hour we will remember a true pioneer in country music who passed away 13 years ago this week, and we'll also pay honor to a gentleman who holds the distinction of being the longest standing member of the Grand Ole Opry. (Hint... he celebrated his 64th anniversary as a member of the Opry family this past Thursday).

Aaron Neville will welcome you to our 3rd and final hour as he invites you to "step right up" to his cover of a George Jones classic. We'll also feature a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame who turned 71 years young yesterday, and we'll have music from Mickey Gilley with a song that reached the top of the country singles chart on this very date back in 1980.

So pour that cup of wake me up, settle in to your favorite chair and get ready for 3 hours of solid gold country classics.
