This week WXXI Kids and RCSD PreK hosted 2 PBS KIDS Family Nights with about 90 grownups and kids!

Families shared a meal, learned about different weather, got to be meteorologists, designed their own craft gingerbread houses, and watched a sneak preview episode of Weather Hunters! We love seeing so much joy in our studios!

Last Thursday, WXXI Kids and our partners at RCSD PreK kicked off the first PBS KIDS Family Night of the school year! We hosted 97 people (parents, caregivers, preschoolers, and siblings!) in our studio spaces to eat, explore, play, and learn together.

The evening was filled with so much joy and learning! We made connections between Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and the social-and-emotional learning that happens in their preschool classrooms, and then families were off to navigate a series of activity stations that helped them use their imagination, play pretend, and tell stories (all ways to support a child's feelings and social/emotional needs). Families designed their own puppets, performed puppet shows, read books together, drew themselves on giant paper, played feelings memory games, and drew how they were feeling as an emoji.

We had the best day at Rochester Children & Teens Book Festival! We got to see and meet so many PBS KIDS families. Thanks for spinning our PBS KIDS question wheel, snapping photos with Arthur’s library card, and taking home literacy activities. 📝📸📚💳♥️

We can’t wait for the Rochester Children & Teens Book Festival! This is one of our favorite events of the year - join us and many of our community friends along with authors and illustrators for a day filled with reading-fun! 📖♥️
