The ROCovery Fitness 5k and X-Challenge took place at 9 am on Saturday, September 18th in Mendon Ponds Park. According to their website, the run/walk is a “celebration of fitness and recovery, and is an important fundraiser for this life-saving organization”.

ROCovery Fitness is a community and workout group focused on sober living and providing opportunities for sober experiences and groups for those recovering from drug or alcohol addiction. As a not-for-profit organization, they aim to “instill hope in the hopeless.”

In the end, 532 individuals took part in the event. Considering it costs runners around $35 to enter, it provides a significant amount of fundraising for the ROCovery Fitness team and its community.

On Friday, September 16, students, faculty, and community members flooded the Patricia O’Keefe Ross Gallery at St. John Fisher University for the opening of Quajay Donnell’s “How I See It”.

Quajay Donnell has lived in Rochester for 15 years, and his appreciation for the city is evident in his photography. The majority of the 30 photos in his show feature street art located throughout Rochester.

At a school like Fisher, where subjects such as biology and nursing reign supreme, it can often feel like the arts are an afterthought, or perhaps not even a consideration. The evening spent at the gallery, however, with Donnell’s work gave Fisher community members a chance to see how vital art is to the success of any institution.

“You have to be kind to ease the pains of reality.” - BSU President Lilliana Weldeslassie

On May 14th of this 2022, 10 Black citizens were fatally shot in a Buffalo Tops Supermarket. This was done in a purposeful act of violence towards the Black community.

BSU held a tribute featuring a speech from Weldeslassie, where she not only paid homage to the lives lost but urged the St. John Fisher community to practice antiracism.
