In light of the negative attention we have been receiving locally and nationally in Rochester regarding racism, the Black History Exhibit continues to shed a positive light on our community. Today, I had the opportunity to visit the Historic Forestville Center, where the exhibit is currently on display.

While some view the annual holiday marking the first day of freedom for the last group of slaves in 1865 as a party, which in many ways it is, others approach Juneteenth in a more retrospective way.

We have only two days remaining until Rochester's most highly anticipated Juneteenth event. Nearly two hundred attendees are expected at the Breakfast. Come and learn about a pivotal moment in history that has rarely been told.

Several years ago, Andre Crockett launched a project to learn more about Rochester's Black history; some of what was discovered will be highlighted at a Juneteenth breakfast on Thursday.
