It came to our attention a long time ago that the “PROs” (performing rights organizations) are on the rampage calling on venues to pay or be fined. These “organizations” are collectors of fees for the right to play copyrighted music in public. In turn, the artists and publishers are compensated quarterly by these organizations. They have been around longer than any of us have been alive and are within their rights to collect these fees. However, the fees they ask for are often unfair and unrealistic for small venues; especially here in our rural areas. They have guidelines for how much they charge but I don’t know the specifics. If you choose to pay these fees, great! If you as a venue owner are contacted by one of them, please ask questions, negotiate, whatever. If you choose to sidestep the PROs, you will have to depend on word of mouth and keep your event off of your websites and social media because you WILL be contacted eventually and not in a friendly manner. These calls have affected many of you and in turn it has affected us as well. We all love music no doubt. Whether you choose to have entertainment legally or not, we will support your decision and will also be there should you call us. Thanks for your time.
