When NYS Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D) announced that she would not seek reelection in 2026, Col. (Ret.) Tom Sullivan (R) admits he felt “conflicted.”

“A part of me said, ‘Good for her,’” Sullivan told The Wave earlier this week. “I’m a firm believer in term limits, but…I don’t know what the circumstances are; I hope it’s nothing bad,” he added. “Did it certainly factor into me running again? Yes.”

Earlier this week, Sullivan confirmed to The Wave that he will be running for Pheffer Amato’s Assembly District 23 seat, which includes most of the Rockaway peninsula and Broad Channel, as well as sections of Howard Beach and Ozone Park.

In the one week since NYS Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D) announced she would not seek reelection in 2026, two individuals have indicated their intentions to campaign for the seat on the Democratic line next year.

According to the New York State Board of Elections Public Reporting System, Pesach Osina (D), a Far Rockaway activist, and Mike Scala (D), a South Queens-based attorney, have both filed to run for Pheffer Amato’s Assembly District 23 seat, which includes most of the Rockaway peninsula and Broad Channel, as well as sections of Howard Beach and Ozone Park.

With his tragic passing, Patrick Brady is the 1163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty, but the legacy he leaves behind goes even beyond his selfless service as a firefighter.

A resident of Belle Harbor, Brady was known across the peninsula as “one of the best bartenders in Rockaway,” often serving up drinks to locals and visitors alike at Connolly’s Bar, Harbor Light Pub, Adrienne’s, and countless other local establishments.

On April 1, 2023, Brady, along with then-fiancée Kara, famously played a prank on 300 relatives and friends, as the couple invited them all to a 40th birthday party at The Rockaway Hotel – only for them to eventually find out the invite was actually for their wedding. And from there, the two tied the knot and never looked back.

Whether it was in fun memories like this one or from his moments behind the bar, Brady constantly displayed his fun-loving personality and met many of his lifelong friends in the process.

The Wave regrets to announce the passing of Firefighter Patrick D. Brady, an 11-year veteran of the FDNY and a Belle Harbor resident.

On Saturday, November 8, Brady, 42, was operating on the roof of an all-hands fire at 9407 Kings Highway in Brooklyn when he suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest. Firefighter Brady was immediately treated by fellow FDNY Firefighters and FDNY EMS. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he died.

Brady was appointed to the FDNY on July 14, 2014. After graduating from the Fire Academy, he was assigned to Engine 227 in Brooklyn, before transferring to Ladder 120 in 2022. He is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are FDNY Firefighters.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brady family at this time. May he rest in peace.
