The Wave is on the scene at Duane Reade on Beach 116th Street, where a car crashed into the store earlier today. No reported injuries.

FDNY is currently on the scene to remove the car from the store.

Rockaway is home to many of the most patriotic citizens in our city, and we’d like to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary with the upcoming 2026 Rockaway Summer Guide! This year’s theme is “Rockaway USA,” and we want a cover that captures the “Rockaway USA” feeling, while also shining a spotlight on a local artist at the same time.

Send your submissions to [email protected] with “2026 Summer Guide Cover” in the subject line. All submissions are due by Friday, June 8.

In preparation for the upcoming AD23 Democratic Primary on Tuesday, June 23, between Pesach Osina and Mike Scala, The Wave will be holding a debate (via Zoom) on Wednesday, June 3.

We are asking our readers, registered voters from the AD23 District, which encompasses the entire Rockaway peninsula, including Broad Channel, Howard Beach, and Ozone Park, as well as local civic organizations, to submit questions for the candidates.

Please submit all questions via email to [email protected]
Please use your name and/or indicate if the question comes from yourself or a civic organization.

We also ask that you share this with anyone who wishes to take part in this important democratic process.

Upon completion, the debate will be available to the public on The Wave social media channels.

Update: The body recovery initially reported by the FDNY is not related to this rescue and is instead connected to a separate incident in Long Island City. The swimmer remains missing.

According to sources, a body has allegedly been retrieved from the water in Arverne, following reports of a missing 18-year-old male on the beach near Beach 73rd Street. This is a developing story.
