I'm still going through images from my trip to Nunavut in the Arctic circle. Sunset along Baker lake with a male Caribou leading the herd. The Qamanirjuaq herds migration route runs along Baker Lake in Nunavut. With Baker Lake being a key point for the migration route. They are moving from calving grounds to winter sheltered regions for winter. My only way in and out of this remote region was by bush plane. Way beyond cell phones and electricity, definitely off grid. True wilderness and I loved it.

Chasing down the lineage of my relatives and Olson name. The Oleson Log Cabin was constructed in 1846 by Norwegian immigrant Ole Oleson. Ole arrived in America with his wife, mother, and infant daughter after a 10-week voyage by sailboat across the harsh Atlantic Ocean. His family traveled with other Norwegian families that established in Wisconsin as early as 1842, before the state was even formed. What would be known as the Skoponong Settlement. The Olesons raised their nine children in this cabin. Norwegian immigrants to English-speaking countries often changed the spelling from Oleson to Olson in order to accommodate English orthographic rules. My family lives within one hour of this cabin and many more of my relatives within 2 hours. My dad is often called Ole by his friends, co workers and relatives. What a fun and amazing day we spent here.

This fierce little owl is called a Northern Saw-whet owl. Only about 7-8 inches tall. The saw whet owl is a mighty hunter of mice and rodents. This winter they will spend their time in the dense evergreen forests of Wisconsin and Illinois. How adorable is this owl! Let me know if you have ever seen one.
