"I think the thing that makes me cry most consistently in movies is when people don’t believe in themselves and somebody else gets them to see that they do have the strength and what it takes–that they aren’t these negative narratives that they’ve internalized and are not the product of those things. I think the reason that makes me cry is because that’s who I was growing up. I felt like I didn’t have anybody tell me that I was worthy or that I would amount to anything, or that I could make my dreams come true, essentially. I wanted that, even if I couldn’t articulate it at the time."

Great interview with Mass Com at Rock Valley College alum Bing Liu.

Filmmaker Bing Liu discusses the power of making things, creating intuitively, and the importance of continuously trying to be engaged.

Mass Com at Rock Valley College

The Rock Valley College Mass Communication Program believes that higher education should prepare students for career success, but also civic success. We strive to stimulate intellectual curiosity, imagination, rational thinking, thoughtful expression, and independent learning – skills necessary for success in all mass communication fields.

To accomplish this goal we couple practical experience with theoretical course work and support a strong program of co-curricular, extracurricular, independent study, and internship activities to help students understand and appreciate the crucial role mass communication has in our society.

We provide students with a well-rounded, media-oriented experience which allows students to gain experience and create a strong body of work in audio production, video production, journalism, post-production, media history and theory, and more.

If you would like additional information about the Mass Communication Program, please contact us at (815) 921-3335 or [email protected].
