Breaking Barriers

Breaking Barriers This isn’t a diet—it’s a new way of thinking, eating, and living. From 575 lbs to a life rebuilt — one mindset shift, one meal, one habit at a time.

Breaking Barriers Mindset & Nutrition Coaching helps real people rebuild habits, fuel their bodies, and win the mental game with no-BS strategy and real accountability. I’m Rich Eaton — chef, food safety instructor, Certified Nutrition Coach, and founder of Breaking Barriers Mindset & Nutrition Coaching and Now We're Cooking. After 45+ years in the food world and a lifetime battle with morbid obes

ity, I hit 575 lbs and was staring down the end. Food was comfort, escape, and survival — until I decided it had to become fuel, purpose, and freedom. I earned a spot in a 12-week personal training program, joined a weight-loss community, and eventually had gastric bypass surgery in 2020. I fought through every mental and physical barrier, shed 350 pounds, rebuilt my relationship with food, removed excess skin, and reinvented my life from the inside out. Now, I help others do the same. At Breaking Barriers, I coach people who are tired of starting over — teaching mindset mastery, real-world nutrition, and sustainable habits without shame, gimmicks, or restriction. And through Now We’re Cooking, I share reinvented comfort foods and 250+ healthy recipes that prove you don’t have to sacrifice flavor to build a healthier life. I don’t preach perfection. I teach persistence, honesty, discipline, and self-belief — because if I can break the cycle, anyone can. Change your mind, change what matters.

☀️ SUNDAY REMINDER ☀️

Sometimes, especially on the weekend, you just don’t want to get out of bed and do a damn thing. But lying there thinking about everything you should be doing doesn’t make the day more relaxing—it usually makes you feel worse.

Get up. Do what needs to be done. Before you know it, it’ll be finished, and you’ll have the rest of the day to enjoy however you want—without that nagging regret hanging over you.

Handle your business, then enjoy your Sunday. You’ll be glad you did. 💪

Get up. Get it done. Have a great day!

TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF IS PART OF THE PLAN

It’s been a long day.

I’ve been working, getting things done, taking care of responsibilities, and trying to accomplish everything that needed to be accomplished.

And now I’m done.

Tonight, taking care of myself looks like a hot bubble bath, dinner, a movie, and absolutely nothing productive for the rest of the night.

And I’m perfectly okay with that.

We spend so much time talking about taking care of our bodies through nutrition, exercise, weight loss, protein, calories, water, sleep—all the things we’re “supposed” to be doing.

But taking care of yourself is bigger than that.

Sometimes taking care of yourself means doing less.

It means shutting the computer.
Putting the phone down.
Taking the bubble bath.
Watching the movie.
Eating a dinner you enjoy.
Sitting your ass on the couch and letting yourself simply exist for a while.

You don’t have to earn rest.

And you certainly don’t need to turn every waking hour into an opportunity to be productive.

The same goes for this journey.

Life cannot constantly revolve around your diet.

You shouldn’t spend every minute thinking about calories, the scale, what you ate, what you’re going to eat, whether you exercised enough, or whether you did everything perfectly today.

Those things matter.

But your mental health matters too. Your peace matters. Your enjoyment matters. Your LIFE matters.

We’re not working this hard to build healthier bodies just so we can spend our entire lives obsessing over building healthier bodies.

We’re doing it so we can LIVE.

So tonight, I’m taking care of myself.

Bubble bath. Dinner. Movie. Relaxation.

Tomorrow, I’ll get back to work.

But tonight, I’m just going to enjoy being alive.

Change your mind and you will change what matters.

❤️ WEIGHT LOSS CAN CHANGE MORE THAN YOUR BODY

We talk a lot about wanting to be accepted for who we are.

When you’re overweight, that can be incredibly complicated.

You may struggle to believe someone could find you attractive.
You may question why someone would want to be intimate with you.
You may hide your body, avoid affection, or convince yourself you’re somehow less desirable because of your size.

So when you finally find someone who loves you, wants you, and accepts you exactly as you are, that acceptance can mean everything. ❤️

But there’s another side of this conversation that we don’t talk about nearly enough.

What happens when you change?

What happens when you lose 50, 100, 200 pounds—or more?

Because while you’re celebrating what you’ve accomplished, the person beside you may be experiencing something completely different.

They may have genuinely been attracted to your larger body.

They may miss parts of the person you physically used to be.

They may suddenly feel insecure about their own body.

They may worry that now that you’ve lost weight, you’re going to become interested in someone else.

They may notice other people noticing you—and jealousy can creep in.

And sometimes intimacy changes.

S*x can change.
Affection can change.
Attraction can change.
Confidence can change.

Sometimes the person losing weight becomes more comfortable with intimacy.

Sometimes they become less comfortable because loose skin, scars, or an unfamiliar body create entirely new insecurities.

Sometimes one partner wants more intimacy while the other pulls away.

And sometimes neither person understands why it’s happening.

Here’s the important part:

None of that automatically makes either person a bad person.

Attraction is complicated. Relationships are complicated. And when one person goes through a massive physical and emotional transformation, pretending nothing else should change isn’t realistic.

But ignoring it isn’t the answer either.

❤️ Talk about it.

Talk about attraction.
Talk about jealousy.
Talk about insecurity.
Talk about s*x and intimacy.
Talk about what you’re afraid of losing.
Talk about what you’re excited about gaining.

And especially talk about the things that are uncomfortable to say.

Because weight loss isn’t just about learning how to live in a different body.

Sometimes your partner has to learn how to love, trust, touch, communicate with, and relate to a person who is changing right in front of them.

And you have to learn those things about yourself too.

Your relationship may need to grow right along with your body changing.

That doesn’t mean the relationship is failing.

It means something significant is happening—and significant change requires communication, honesty, reassurance, patience, and sometimes outside help.

🧠 This is another reason mindset matters so much.

You’re not just losing weight.

You’re changing how you see yourself.

You’re changing how other people see you.

You’re changing how you move through the world.

And sometimes you’re changing relationships that were built around a version of you that no longer exists.

Change your mind. Change what matters. ❤️

🔥 CHANGE YOUR MIND AND YOU WILL CHANGE WHAT MATTERS. 🔥

You see those words attached to Breaking Barriers all the time.

But what do they actually mean?

They aren’t just a catchy slogan.

They are the foundation of everything I believe about lasting change.

🧠 CHANGE YOUR MIND.

For years—sometimes decades—we’ve trained ourselves to think in ways that work against us.

We told ourselves:

❌ I already screwed up today, so I might as well keep eating.

❌ I’ve tried everything. Nothing works for me.

❌ I can’t eat that because I’m trying to lose weight.

❌ I’ll start again Monday.

❌ The scale went up, so I failed.

❌ I’ve been good all week. I deserve to eat whatever I want.

❌ I just don’t have enough motivation.

And after repeating those things long enough, they stopped feeling like thoughts.

They started feeling like facts.

That’s how many of us ended up where we did.

It wasn’t one cheeseburger.

It wasn’t one dessert.

It wasn’t one vacation, holiday or bad week.

It was YEARS of behaviors being driven by the same thoughts, beliefs, excuses, fears and habits.

We didn’t wake up one morning and suddenly have a broken relationship with food.

We practiced it.

Little by little.

Meal after meal.

Decision after decision.

Year after year.

And here’s the part we don’t always want to hear:

👉 If our thinking helped create the life we’re trying to escape, changing only the food isn’t enough.

You can follow another diet.

You can throw away every food you enjoy.

You can take a medication.

You can have weight-loss surgery.

You can count every calorie and hit every macro perfectly.

Those things can absolutely be useful tools.

But none of them can do the work inside your head for you.

Because eventually life happens.

Stress happens.

Birthdays happen.

Vacations happen.

Grief happens.

Restaurants happen.

Bad days happen.

And Tuesday freaking happens. 😂

That’s when your mindset matters.

💥 THIS IS WHERE WE START BREAKING BARRIERS.

We start challenging the thinking that kept us stuck.

Instead of:

“I screwed up, so today is ruined.”

We learn:

👉 That was one decision. My next decision can be different.

Instead of:

“I can’t have that.”

We learn:

👉 I can have anything. I just can’t have everything in every amount whenever I want it.

Instead of:

“The scale went up. I’m failing.”

We learn:

👉 The scale gave me information. Now I decide what to do with it.

Instead of:

“I’ll start Monday.”

We learn:

👉 My next opportunity to make a better choice isn’t Monday. It’s my next choice.

THAT is changing your mind.

And when you start changing your mind…

❤️ YOU START CHANGING WHAT MATTERS.

You change your relationship with food.

You change how you respond to mistakes.

You change how you speak to yourself.

You change your habits.

You change your confidence.

You change your health.

You change what happens after a bad day.

You change whether one bad meal becomes three bad weeks.

You change whether you participate in your life or continue watching it from the sidelines.

And eventually, something even bigger changes.

Your identity.

You stop saying:

“I’m trying to lose weight.”

And you start becoming:

🔥 “I’m someone who knows how to take care of myself.”

That’s a massive difference.

Because Breaking Barriers isn’t about teaching you how to live perfectly.

It’s teaching you how to live normally without constantly destroying your own progress.

It’s not about never eating pizza again.

It’s learning how to eat pizza without turning it into a three-day free-for-all.

It’s not about never making another bad choice.

It’s learning that a bad choice doesn’t require another one.

It’s not about being motivated every morning.

It’s learning to show up when motivation isn’t there.

And it’s definitely not about becoming perfect.

It’s about becoming consistent enough that perfection no longer matters.

💥 Change your thoughts.

Your thoughts influence your decisions.

💥 Change your decisions.

Your decisions create your behaviors.

💥 Change your behaviors.

Your behaviors repeated consistently create your results.

💥 Change those results long enough…

And eventually, you’ve changed your life.

That’s why our saying isn’t:

“Change your diet and you’ll change your weight.”

It’s bigger than that.

CHANGE YOUR MIND AND YOU WILL CHANGE WHAT MATTERS.

Because the greatest barrier between where you’ve been and where you’re trying to go may not be sitting on your plate.

🧠 It may be sitting between your ears.

And that’s exactly why we’re called:

🔥 BREAKING BARRIERS. 🔥

Change your mind.
Break the barriers.
Change what matters. 💪❤️

🚧💛 Breaking Barriers Is Just Getting Started... 💛🚧

Today feels different.

Not because we've reached the finish line...

But because we've finally arrived at the starting line. 🚀

When I started Breaking Barriers, my goal wasn't to build another weight loss program.

It wasn't to sell meal plans.

It wasn't to chase followers.

My goal was simple...

❤️ To help people break the barriers that have kept them stuck for years.

The barriers of...

😞 Self-doubt.

🍔 Emotional eating.

😔 Shame.

😩 "I've tried everything."

💔 "Nothing works for me."

Those are the barriers I want to help people break.

And now...

It's time to reach more people than ever before.

🚗 My new license plate says LOSE FAT.

🧲 My car now has magnets so people know who we are.

💳 New business cards are printed.

📱 A digital business card is ready.

🎪 I'm building a booth for fairs, expos, and community events.

🎤 I'm teaching cooking classes.

🎙️ The podcast continues to grow.

📚 New resources are being created almost every week.

Every one of these things has one purpose...

✨ To help the next person who feels like they've run out of hope.

The truth is...

There are millions of people struggling with their weight.

Millions.

People who feel embarrassed to walk into a gym.

People who think they've failed too many times.

People who believe they'll never change.

I know that feeling...

Because I used to be one of them.

I weighed over 600 pounds.

I know what it's like to feel invisible.

I know what it's like to believe your life will never be different.

And that's exactly why Breaking Barriers exists.

Not to judge.

Not to shame.

Not to tell people they can never eat pizza again.

But to teach them how to build a life they can actually sustain.

To every single member who's already here...

💛 Thank you.

You believed in this community before it became what I know it can become.

You're not just members...

You're the foundation.

And this is only the beginning.

We're going to reach more people.

We're going to change more lives.

We're going to help more families.

We're going to show people that lasting weight loss isn't about perfection...

✨ It's about changing your mindset, building better habits, and refusing to give up.

This next chapter is going to be incredible...

And I couldn't be more excited that you're part of it. ❤️

🚧 Breaking Barriers isn't getting bigger just for the sake of growth...

💛 We're growing because there are people out there who still need hope... and we're going to find them.

✨ Change your mind, and you'll change what matters.

🍕🍦 Nothing Is Off-Limits... But Portions Should Be. 🤔

One of the biggest myths in weight loss is that you have to give up all the foods you love.

❌ No pizza.

❌ No ice cream.

❌ No cake.

❌ No lasagna.

I don't believe that for a second.

💯 There are no off-limit foods...

⚠️ But there SHOULD be off-limit amounts of those foods.

Could you eat ice cream every single day and still lose weight?

✅ Absolutely.

But here's the catch...

If that bowl of ice cream is 500 calories, those 500 calories have to come from somewhere else.

📉 Calories don't disappear just because we enjoy them.

At the end of the day...

⚖️ Weight loss is driven by calories in versus calories out.

If you eat more calories than your body burns...

📈 You'll gain weight.

If you eat fewer calories than your body burns...

📉 You'll lose weight.

It's really that simple.

Now ask yourself this...

🤔 Would you rather...

🍦 Eat ice cream every single day...
..and spend the rest of the day hungry because you had to cut food somewhere else?

OR

🥗 Eat satisfying, filling meals all week...
..and truly enjoy a bowl of ice cream once or twice a week without feeling deprived?

There isn't a wrong answer.

🎯 But there is a consequence to every choice.

Here's another way to think about it...

💵 Imagine never looking at your bank account.

You keep spending money.

Coffee here. ☕

Lunch there. 🍔

Amazon order. 📦

A few snacks at the gas station. ⛽

Before long you're wondering...

💭 "Where did all my money go?"

Calories work the exact same way.

If you never track them...

If you never pay attention...

If you never "balance the books"...

You'll eventually wonder...

💭 "Why am I not losing weight?"

Your bank account doesn't magically stay full.

💰 You have to earn the money.

📊 You have to know what's coming in and what's going out.

Your calorie budget works exactly the same way.

You don't have to give up the foods you love.

❤️ You just have to make room for them.

That's what sustainable nutrition looks like.

Not restriction.

Not guilt.

Not labeling foods as "good" or "bad."

Just making intentional choices that move you toward your goals. 💪

🔥 Remember...

You can eat anything.

You just can't eat everything, every day, in any amount, and expect your body to change.

💛 Change your mind, and you will change what matters.

👇 Tell me in the comments...

What's one food you've learned you can still enjoy while losing weight?
