Brevard County Voters Head to the Polls Tuesday for Florida’s 2026 Primary Election

Brevard County voters will head to the polls Tuesday, August 18, for Florida’s 2026 Primary Election, with races at the state and local level appearing on ballots across the Space Coast.

For residents planning to vote on Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. throughout Brevard County. Voters who are in line by 7 p.m. are permitted to cast a ballot.

Unlike Early Voting, voters on Election Day must cast their ballot at their assigned precinct and polling location. The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections provides an online precinct lookup for voters who are unsure where they need to go.

Florida Has a Closed Primary

One important thing for voters to understand before heading to the polls is that Florida is a closed primary state.

That means voters registered with a political party can generally vote in that party's primary contests. A registered Republican, for example, votes in Republican primary races, while a registered Democrat votes in Democratic primary races.

However, that does not necessarily mean voters without a major-party affiliation have nothing to vote on Tuesday.

All eligible voters may participate in nonpartisan contests that appear on their ballot, including applicable judicial, school board, municipal and referendum races. There can also be circumstances under Florida election law in which a primary contest is open to all eligible voters.

Because ballots can differ based on a voter's address, precinct and party registration, Brevard residents should check their individual sample ballot rather than assuming which races will appear.

Check Your Sample Ballot Before You Vote

The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections has made 2026 Primary Election sample ballots available online.

Voters can find their precinct and select the appropriate party affiliation to see the ballot associated with their voting location. Reviewing the ballot ahead of time can give voters an opportunity to research candidates and issues before arriving at the polls.

The Supervisor of Elections also offers a Voter Information Lookup that residents can use to verify their voter information and polling location.

Early Voting Has Ended

Brevard County's Early Voting period ran from August 8 through August 15, with 10 Early Voting locations available around the county.

That period has now concluded, meaning voters who have not already cast their ballots will need to use their assigned polling place on Election Day.

What About Vote-by-Mail Ballots?

Voters who still have a completed vote-by-mail ballot should pay close attention to the deadline.

Under Florida law, a completed vote-by-mail ballot generally must be received by the Supervisor of Elections by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. A postmark by Election Day is not enough for most domestic vote-by-mail ballots.

With Election Day arriving Tuesday, voters who still have a mail ballot should check directly with the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections for their available return options rather than relying on regular mail delivery.

Know Where You're Voting Before Leaving Home

One of the easiest ways to avoid Election Day confusion is to check your polling location before leaving home.

Election Day voters cannot simply visit any polling place in Brevard County. They must report to the polling location assigned to their precinct.

Election Day: Tuesday, August 18, 2026

Primary system: Florida is a closed primary state, although nonpartisan contests may be open to all eligible voters

Election Results

Once polls close Tuesday night, attention will turn to the results.

The Brevard County Supervisor of Elections maintains an Election Results section where local results are posted. As with any election, early numbers on election night should be considered unofficial until the canvassing and certification process is completed.

Tuesday's primary will determine which candidates advance toward the November 3, 2026 General Election, while some nonpartisan contests may also be decided depending on the race and results.

Each year, GiFT donates Teacher Appreciation Boxes to schools throughout Brevard County.

This year, we created something new: a Neurodiversity Teacher Appreciation Kit, designed
specifically for the ESE teachers who work every day with our neurodivergent students.

For just $15, any family has the opportunity to purchase a kit and give it to their favorite ESE teacher,
or to a school close to their heart. It’s a small investment with a big payoff: a teacher who feels genuinely appreciated, and a classroom that feels the ripple effect all year long.

Inside each kit, teachers will find twelve articles covering the topics that shape their
classrooms every day — including; “100 Ways to Help Children Learn in the Classroom”
and resources on ADHD, dyslexia, and developmental delays. Alongside the articles
are simple comforts meant just for the teacher: fidget spinners, hand cream, honey tea,
a wristband, pencils, erasers, a candle, and other small self-care items.

None of it is extravagant. All of it is intentional. Because teaching a neurodivergent child takes

Mark Your Calendars NOW for an exciting afternoon of Dancing Through the Decades!

This uplifting performance will feature special needs dancers showcasing their talents while performing to favorite songs from across the decades.

The Dancing Ninjas invite the community to celebrate talent, determination, and the joy of dance at their 2nd Annual Dance Recital, “Dancing Through the Decades,” on Sunday, September 13, at 2 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium.

This uplifting performance will feature special needs dancers showcasing their talents while performing to favorite songs from across the decades. The event promises an entertaining afternoon for family, friends, and community members of all ages.

The Dancing Ninjas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting its mission through dance and community involvement.

Sprint for Sight 5K Returns October 3 to Support Independence for Individuals with Vision Loss

Lace up your running shoes and make every step count at the Sprint for Sight 5K on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Gleason Park in Indian Harbour Beach. Hosted by the Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind (BAAB), this annual community event invites participants of all ages and abilities to run, walk, or volunteer in support of local individuals living with vision loss.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and welcomes competitive runners, casual walkers, families, and community supporters to come together for an inspiring morning focused on health, inclusion, and making a meaningful difference.

Registration fees are:

Individual Registration: $35
Youth (Ages 0–17): $30
Low Vision Registration: $25

Giving back to our community has always been an important part of Spotlight Magazine.

Since 2021, we have been keeping track of the local charities and nonprofits we have supported by donating a complimentary full page in our monthly publication to help them share their stories, missions, and needs with our readers.

Today, that list has grown to 61 local charities and nonprofit organizations!

I especially enjoy finding smaller organizations that may be just getting started or may not have access to large grants or funding. Sometimes a little extra exposure can go a long way in helping an organization reach the people who need them, or the people who want to help.

ArtsBrevard.org Seeks Local Artists and Organizations to Help Showcase Brevard's Creative Community

If you’ve ever captured the beauty of Brevard’s thriving arts scene through your camera lens, now is your chance to have your work featured for the entire community to see.

ArtsBrevard is inviting members of the Brevard Cultural Alliance (BCA) and local arts organizations to submit high-quality photographs that celebrate the incredible talent and creativity found throughout Brevard County.

The organization is looking for professional, high-resolution images that highlight a wide range of artistic experiences, including:

Visual artists at work
Original artwork
Performing arts productions
Art studios
Theaters and performance venues
Cultural events
Other scenes that showcase Brevard’s vibrant creative community
Selected photographs may be featured on the ArtsBrevard website, helping promote local artists, organizations, and the county’s growing arts and culture scene to residents and visitors alike.

To ensure all submitted images can be used, contributors must verify that their photographs comply with all applicable model and property release requirements.
