✨ Author Spotlight: Ingrid Keriotis ✨

Ingrid Keriotis has been writing poetry since she was very young. Her poems “Sea Change” and “The Well,” published in the Sierra Journal, explore family, love, and change — one written as her daughter left for college, another for her sister during a difficult time.

Ingrid shared that she’s now exploring creative nonfiction, writing personal essays that reflect on real experiences and the challenge of deciding what details to include.

💬 Her advice to emerging writers?
“Sending work to literary magazines is how many writers first get their work out there… Getting published by Sierra Journal is a great opportunity for our students — not every community college has a literary journal, so we are truly lucky to have one here at Sierra.”

This week, Sierra College Press takes you to Norden – Exit 174, a place where history, engineering, and Sierra Nevada weather all collide.

At Norden, the Union Pacific Railroad once operated an underground station and still maintains a turntable and check station. The area is home to some of the original snowsheds that protected 38 miles of track from the Sierra’s legendary snowfall—averaging more than 30 feet every year!

Railroaders know this place as “The Hill”—one of the most difficult tracks ever built in the United States.
