Breaking: 2022 World Cup playoff: FIFA changes dates for Ghana's crucial clash with arch-rivals Nigeria
Ghana's plans for their decisive 2022 World Cup play-off against rivals Nigeria have been thrown off gear after football's world governing body, FIFA, changed the dates for the two matches to be played next month.
The two matches to decide which of the two countries would seal a ticket to the World Cup in Qatar was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 24 and Sunday, March 27.
However it has now been moved to Friday, March 25 to Tuesday, March 29.
The news comes as a big relief for both sides whose squad are dominated by players plying their trade in Europe with some of the top clubs in the world.
With these players playing for their clubs at the weekend before the matches, they would have had just two or three days of training before playing in the first-leg of the two matches.
But with the change in dates, the teams will have one more day of training before the first leg while extending the training day for the second-leg by another day.
With television massively interested in telecasting all the matches in the playoffs, the changes in the dates will also greatly enhance coverage and reach.
The Black Stars will first host the Super Eagles in Cape Coast before traveling to Abuja for the second leg.
The winner of the two-legged game qualifies for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The Black Stars are hoping to make a return to the Mundial after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.
Full details of the changes are below:
Match: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play offs – Ghana vs. Nigeria (First Leg)
Date: Friday, March 25, 2022
Venue: Cape Coast stadium
Match; FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play offs – Nigeria vs. Ghana (Second Leg)
Date; Tuesday, March 29, 2022
Venue: Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja

Read: Mask-wearing armed robbers who attacked a VIP bus and robbed passengers of their monies and other belongings pleaded with the victims to pray for them because they are not happy committing the crime but the system leaves them with no other option.
The VIP bus with registration number, GT 5795-16 was travelling from Takoradi in the Western Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region when the five bandits attacked it.
One of the passengers of the bus, Ekua is reported as saying that the vehicle moved from the Abenbebon Station in Apremdo, Takoradi at around 10:30 pm on Sunday.
“At around 3:30 am on Monday, February 21, 2022, about five armed robbers with rifles and other weapons attacked us and made away with our monies and other belongings. All of them were wearing masks,” 3news.com quotes her as having recounted in an interview with Connect FM.
Interestingly, the robbers, after collecting the victims’ belongings, asked them to pray for them because the hardship in the system pushed them into the criminal activity.
“After the robbery, they asked us to pray for them because it was not their will to stop vehicles on the highway and rob passengers of their belongings but the system has compelled them to do so,” Ekua added.
Another victim who claimed to be a driver and was “going to buy an engine for my vehicle at Kumasi” said he lost GH¢8,500 to the gang.
“I’m a driver and I was going to buy an engine for my vehicle at Kumasi. My Mobile Money phone was last week stolen by another set of armed robbers at Kintampo so I decided to carry the money in my bag but unfortunately, I have been robbed again,” he cried as quoted by 3news.com.
The driver of the VIP bus, Agya Owusu narrated to Connect FM how the situation became unavoidable although a fellow driver had signalled him about the danger ahead.
He said: “When I got to Fomena, I saw a driver alerting me with his light that there was danger on the road. I became confused and stopped the vehicle for about five minutes. I realized no vehicle was coming again so I decided to continue my journey. When I moved forward for some minutes, I saw a Sprinter bus on the road with passengers lying on the ground. This is where I realized armed robbers were on the road. There was nothing I could do again because they were very close. They attacked us and took all our monies. They took my GH¢3,400.”
The victims have reportedly lodged an official complaint with Anwiankwanta Police Station.
Medikal has been convicted for brandishing a gun in public. He has been fined GH¢3,600 by an Accra Circuit Court.
In default, he will serve nine months in prison.
This was after the musician changed his plea and pleaded guilty to the charge, on Monday morning.
Medikal was subsequently convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh.
