Our April 2022 Issue cover: "BCMA (red) and GOLM1 (green) staining of H929 human myeloma cells."

"Merged confocal fluorescent microscopy images depicting subcellular localization of B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) in H929 cells (human multiple myeloma cell line).

BCMA (red) is found on the cell surface and in the Golgi apparatus (BCMA (red); GOLM1 (Golgi apparatus marker, green); nuclei are counter-stained with DAPI (blue).

BCMA is a target in the treatment of multiple myeloma by chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy. CAR-T therapies against different targets have been associated with neurotoxic side effects, so a comprehensive survey of BCMA expression levels in normal human brain was performed using complementary assays, including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and RNA-seq.

BCMA protein was not detected in normal brain."

March Article Highlight: Quantitative Assessment of Epithelial Proliferation in Rat Mammary Gland Using Artificial Intelligence Independent of Choice of Proliferation Marker

Authors: Tobias H. Dovmark, Peter H. Kvist, Anne-Marie Mølck, Henning Hvid

"In this paper we describe how we developed and validated an image analysis workflow based on artificial intelligence, which can be used to quantify epithelial proliferation in the rat mammary gland and thereby replace time-consuming manual counting."
