: The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire DMV region under a Slight Risk (Level 2/5) for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. A corridor of clearer skies from West Virginia into Maryland, D.C., and northern Virginia is allowing for stronger heating, which will support storm development later today.

Across the DC–Baltimore metro, including Montgomery County, conditions will become favorable for scattered damaging wind gusts as storms form and move east. A few storms may also produce isolated hail, especially in stronger cores or clusters that briefly organize.

While storm coverage may vary across the region, any storm that develops in the DMV will have the potential to produce strong, locally damaging winds due to steep low‑level lapse rates and enhanced westerly flow aloft.

We’ll be monitoring radar, mesoscale trends, and SPC updates closely through the afternoon and evening and will provide real‑time updates as storms begin to fire.

The compromised information is reported to include names, email addresses, student IDs, and private messages. A ransom demand was reportedly issued with a deadline of May 12, 2026.

: Temperatures are surging well above normal across Montgomery County today, with Gaithersburg projected to climb into the upper 80s to low 90s this afternoon.

These values are within striking distance of long‑standing April heat records for our area.

A sharp drop-off follows after sunset, but the afternoon heat will be the main story; especially for mid‑April.

Please make sure to stay hydrated, limit prolonged time in direct sun, and check on anyone sensitive to heat.
