WE’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT FLOODS FOR THE LAST WEEK OR TWO FOR GOOD REASON, NAMELY, THE MANY ATMOSPHERIC RIVERS AND RESULTING RAINS CROSSING THE PACIFIC DIRECTLY TO THE WEST COAST. HOWEVER, THE LARGEST, MOST DESTRUCTIVE FLOOD TO EVER HIT THE UNITED STATES WAS “THE GREAT MISSISSIPPI FLOOD OF 1927”. OF COURSE, THIS FLOOD HAD MANY ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL EFFECTS, BUT THERE WERE ALSO MANY SONGS AND TUNES THAT CAME OUT OF THIS DISASTER. HERE ON ROOTS, WE’LL ADD A SPECIAL PROGRAM CALLED "SOUTHERN SOURCE" WHEREIN HOST, STEVE WHARTON EXPLORES THE MUSICAL OUTCOME OF THE GREAT FLOOD. THIS EPISODE IS CALLED “HIGH WATER EVERYWHERE” AND WE’LL BE PRESENTING IT HERE ON ROOTS AT 4:00 P.M. THIS SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, ON KRCB-FM 104.9, SONOMA COUNTY'S NPR STATION

This seems like a really good week to share a wonderful musical treasury I found, probably 8 or more years ago. It's called "A Guide to the Crooked Road, Virginia's Heritage Musical Trail" By Joe Wilson. It's a musical exploration of State Highway 58, often called the Crooked Road, refering to the way it winds through West Virginia. Author and Narrator, Joe Wilson introduces 52 mostly old time songs and tunes found along the Crooked Road, and he presents them in a set of CD's just right to be played on "Our Roots are Showing" Both Kevin and I are off this week, so we'll leave you with this great collection of Roots Music to help us get in the mood for the upcoming Father's Day Bluegrass Festival. Listen in and enjoy, this Saturday 2til 5 KRCB-FM 104.9

Another Week on "Roots". It's time to dig into the local folk artists, past and Present just to honor all the wonderful music that happens and has happened here in Sonoma County. We may add a few artists from other places, but it'll be those who've had a big influence on us and our music here in Sonoma County.
That's on Our Roots Are Showing, KRCB-FM, 104.9 from 2: til 5

Steve DeLap here, On “Roots” this Saturday, we’re planning something a little different. We’ll play some new songs and tunes, and some Fall favorites as usual, Starting at 2:00, but I also plan to play a wonderful program, developed by Steve Wharton some years ago called “Southern Source”. It’s focused on music recorded in the twenty’s and thirty’s on 78 rpm records. This edition, the first of a series, is called “The Pioneers of Country Music, part 1” and it features folks like Fiddling’ John Carson, Uncle Dave Macon, Vernon Dalhart, The Carter Family, and many more. I’m doing this because I’m turning 78 tomorrow and it just seems right to play some 78’s on such an occasion. 4:00 This Saturday afternoon on “Our Roots are Showing” KRCB-FM, 104.9” on your FM dial.

Thoughts on this tentative reopening of our lives and live music.
It’s the music that defines us, that keeps us together, Celtic fiddle, Cajun rhythms, southern blues. Laments, Story songs, and the rest. It’s what encourages us sing, makes us want to dance, opens our feelings, lets us know we’re alive. It’s not written to sell, though that happens. It’s created to speak from our hearts, to express our sorrows, to celebrate our joys, to tell our stories, to connect us to one another. It’s why we keep listening, writing, playing; it’s the rhythm, the poetry, the joy of being in touch with one another and with ourselves, Yes, along with everything else, It’s the music.
