Rollin W. Thompson’s career is a classic example of how youth leaders can impact an entire community in a profound way. As former principal of Whitesboro High School and the first principal of both Roscoe Conkling School and Proctor High, Thompson was more than just an administrator he was a father figure to many local students.

This B-52G Stratofortress has been a staple at Griffiss Business & Technology Park (formerly Air Force Base) since 1960. The “Mohawk Valley” as it was appropriately named, served during a period when Griffiss played an important role in national defense, Cold War readiness, Vietnam-era operations and training connected to the Persian Gulf War.

Most locals are unaware that, for a very brief period during World War II, N**i prisoners of war were held in this building on Seward Ave. in South Utica. Today, the structure serves as headquarters for the Divine Brothers Company.

Helen Sperling is truly one of the most remarkable figures in Mohawk Valley history. She was imprisoned at RavensbrĂĽck and Buchenwald concentration camps during World War II and survived to tell her story to communities across the region. She spoke to local youth about the importance of treating people with respect and dignity to ensure atrocities like the ones she survived never occurred again.
