Effective immediately, Floyd County Public Works is closing Bells Ferry Road at the Woodward Creek Bridge due to excessive wear. Inspectors will continue to evaluate, and we could reopen soon with a reduced load capacity. Floyd County School Board has been notified, since this is a bus route.

Local road detours will include Minshew Road and Gaines Road to the north and West Hermitage Road to the south.

The bridge has already been approved for replacement with the Georgia Department of Transportation as part of the State’s Local Bridge Replacement Program; the project is currently scheduled to be let next month.

Rome Police officers are currently on scene after a vehicle struck the Atlanta Allergy & Asthma office near Kroger on Riverbend Drive around 1:27 PM Wednesday.

According to the Rome Police Department, a 60-year-old female driver’s vehicle came to rest inside the building.

No significant injuries have been reported, and the driver is conscious and alert.

Due to heavy structural damage, the Fire Marshal is also on scene.

Our top local stories for Tuesday……..Today is Veterans’ Day and a parade will be held this morning at 10 a.m. on Broad Street just before the annual ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. at Myrtle Hill Cemetery; The Rome City Commission has approved the reimbursement of funds from the use of tripper buses as school buses; Georgia Highlands College recently celebrated a major milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for the nearly $12 million renovation of the Lakeview Healthcare Education Center on the Floyd Campus; the Floyd County Board of Commissioners will meet on Tuesday at the County Administration building located at 12 East Fourth Avenue; and Georgia gas prices rise two cents. Floyd County Government offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 in honor of Veterans Day.

All remote sites will be closed. As always, please utilize our 24 hour drop off for your recyclables at the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center.

** Please note: The Floyd County Board of Commissioners will still hold their regularly scheduled meeting for Tuesday, November 11 in the Community Room, Suite 206 at the County Administration building, 12 E. 4th Ave., Rome.
