And now the news...

Country star Billy Ray Cyrus is opening up about a frightening health battle. Cyrus revealed that he nearly died from sepsis and later suffered vocal paralysis. He says there were times doctors sent him home while his condition worsened, and he credits faith, prayer, and family support for helping him through the ordeal. Billy Ray also shared that a song by his daughter, Noah Cyrus, helped inspire him during his recovery.

The country music community is mourning the loss of Bill Cody. The longtime Grand Ole Opry announcer, radio personality, and Country Radio Hall of Fame member has passed away at the age of 67 following serious heart and kidney complications. Tributes have poured in from across the country music world, remembering Cody's decades of dedication to the genre and the artists he championed.

A full-circle moment for Lainey Wilson and Tim McGraw. Wilson recently revealed that as a teenager she wrote McGraw a fan letter that never reached him. Twenty years later, after the two performed together at CMA Fest, McGraw responded with a heartfelt letter of his own and says the story may even inspire a future song.

And fans won't have to wait long for new music from Wynonna Judd. Wynonna has announced her upcoming album, The Hard Truth, arriving October 2nd. The first single, "Kentucky Queen," is already available, and Wynonna says the project reflects some of the most personal and honest songwriting of her career.

ON THIS DATE IN COUNTRY MUSIC โ€“ June 11th
As heard on Highway 64 with Big Al at 6:22 a.m.

Today we're looking back at some of the biggest moments in country music history that happened on June 11th.

In 1949, a 25-year-old Hank Williams was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. During his debut performance, the crowd demanded six encores, a feat that quickly became part of country music legend.

Born on this day in 1966 was acclaimed Texas songwriter Bruce Robison. His songs would later become major hits for artists including George Strait, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and The Chicks.

In 1978, Willie Nelson's version of "Georgia On My Mind" climbed to number one on the country charts. The recording also earned Willie a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.

In 1988, Reba McEntire topped the country album chart with Reba. The album marked a shift toward a more polished sound and produced the number-one hits "I Know How He Feels" and "New Fool at an Old Game."

Also in 1988, Patty Loveless was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. She would go on to become one of the most respected voices in country music, scoring numerous hits and earning a place among the genre's legends.

And in 2019, Luke Combs received an invitation to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry, one of country music's highest honors and another milestone in his rapidly rising career.

That's a look back at June 11th in Country Music History. I'm Big Al, and that's your "On This Date in Country Music" report on Highway 64. ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿค
