The University of Illinois is looking for participants for a research project focused on PFAS contamination in the Rockton, Illinois area. These "forever chemicals" have been linked to a number of health concerns, including kidney and testicular cancer. This is part of a federal Superfund research proposal, and Rockton was selected as a study site. Researchers from U of Illinois in both Urbana-Champaign and Chicago will be leading the work.

Greg Yalden had already risen to Sergeant once before, in 2018, after eighteen years on the Rockford Police force. He told us he likes his job in Roscoe more, which he began in 2023. A few months after joining the Roscoe department, he was honored for bravery for assisting with victims of an apartment fire. Before Rockford, he was a Winnebago County Sheriff's deputy for seven years. He is a graduate of Boylan High School and Illinois State University. He lives with his family in the Roscoe/Rockton area.

Family feasting is coming to Viking Lanes in South Beloit on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in the Rockton-Roscoe Rotary Club Ribfest, as four fire departments - Harlem-Roscoe, Shirland, Rockton, and alumni from South Beloit - prepare to turn up the heat on their competition for a fifth year.

Our local Rotary Club has served Northern Winnebago County since 1959.
