THAW ACCELERATES: While temperatures recovered nicely today compared to the weekend's arctic blast, we remain very much on the chilly side. That won't be the case starting tomorrow, as we enjoy what's likely to be the first of three straight days of above normal temperatures. Melting snow will contribute to added moisture in the atmosphere, which will likely lead to a good deal of clouds and some occasional fog here or there, but major impacts are not likely.

Our one and only precipitation chance this week comes Thursday. It's likely to come mainly as rain, though as temperatures fall later in the day and at night, a mix with or even a brief change to snow will be possible. Accumulations, however, are not expected.

A temperature see-saw then gets underway Friday, which will see brief intrusions of cooler air, followed by brief surges of milder, Pacific air. Those daily fluctuations from chilly to mild may continue into our Christmas Week.

Snow will blow.

Snow will blow.

VERY DIFFICULT COMMUTE POSSIBLE THIS MORNING: Good Wednesday morning, all! A brief shot of snow is possible this morning, though not all of us will see it. The problem is, when and where it does snow, it'll likely come down at a very heavy rate, if only briefly (30-60 minutes). A few spots may pick up an inch or so, and while the accumulations won't be significant, that's not the whole story. The bigger problem will be roaring winds, which combined with the heavier bursts of snow will create near whiteout conditions IN SPOTS. Again, to reiterate, this will not occur everywhere, but where it does, it will create travel nightmares.

Even if it does not snow, the gusty winds will cause blowing and drifting snow to be a concern for much of the day. Remember last weekend's snow was much lighter and more powdery. Thus, it'll blow and drift more easily than the snow we had seen over Thanksgiving weekend. Just another concern to be on the lookout for over much of our Wednesday.

Lastly, temperatures will be falling as the day progresses, and once again, the wind will have an impact. This time, we'll be talking about wind chills which will fall into the single digits by dinnertime, and then below zero overnight.

Unfortunately, this looks to be a wild and wacky Wednesday, weather-wise, and relief may still be several days away.

Be smart and safe, folks!
