Lightweight gear day:
SCHOEPS CMIT5u on a K-Tek boom going into a Sound Devices MixPre-6II and monitoring on Remote Audio HN-7506 headphones, which were ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL while working in a high noise environment!

A sound reminder to my documentary film people on the importance of recording dialogue while on set:
If something is wrong with a shot, you can always cut to B-roll during a story, but you can’t cut away to room tone in the middle of somebody’s sentence, even with the most beautifully-lit scene in frame 😉 thanks for listening

Why budget for a separate boom op? It’s akin to a Director of Photography not having an assistant camera to pull focus. While it may make sense for some productions there are limits to what is possible without. Having a dedicated boom op increases possible speed, quality, & complexity of work that is achievable.
