That’s exactly how we’ve designed our tours.

We don’t want everyone walking away with the same experience. We want you to have the freedom to explore, investigate and experience the location in your own way.

We’ll spend time together, share the history of the location and share techniques on how we investigate, but a large part of our tours is FREE ROAM investigation time.

Bring your own equipment or utilize the equipment we have available. Explore with a group, split off and check out different areas, or find a spot that feels right to you.

Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been doing this for years, there’s something for everyone.

Our goal is simple: give you the opportunity, the freedom and the space to create an experience that’s uniquely yours.

Because we don’t want to tell you what your night should be…

Another monument I came across while exploring a cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and had to stop and find out who “Mrs. George” was! 🤔

Turns out, I had stumbled across the grave of Eliza “Mother” George, a remarkable woman who served as a nurse during the Civil War.

At 54 years old, Eliza left her home in Fort Wayne in 1863 and volunteered with the Indiana Sanitary Commission, caring for sick and wounded Union soldiers in hospitals and even near the front lines in places including Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina. The soldiers she cared for affectionately called her “Mother George.”

Near the end of the war, she was sent to Wilmington, North Carolina, where thousands of recently released Union prisoners arrived in terrible condition. She spent her final days caring for them until she contracted typhoid fever herself.

Eliza died on May 9, 1865, just weeks after the end of the Civil War. Her body was brought back to Fort Wayne, where she was buried at Lindenwood Cemetery with full military honors—a distinction noted as unique among the women buried there.

Later that year, the Indiana Sanitary Commission and the Fort Wayne Ladies Aid helped erect this beautiful monument in her memory. Even the carvings on the monument reflect her service caring for wounded soldiers.

I love finding stories like this. You can walk past an old monument and have no idea that the person buried there lived such an incredible life. đź–¤

Today’s stop on my journey through Indiana took me to Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, where I came across this incredible mausoleum belonging to Rosalie Tresselt Maxwell.
At first, it was the beautiful Art Nouveau design that caught my attention. The curved stonework, ornate iron doors and details make it stand out among the surrounding graves.
But once I started looking into Rosalie’s story, I realized there was a lot more here than a beautiful old mausoleum.

Rosalie was involved in a tragic automobile accident in 1910 that resulted in the death of a 9-year-old girl, Irene Cox. Rosalie later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 2–21 years in prison, although the sentence was suspended. She also paid the girl’s father $5,300.
Years later, Rosalie’s marriage ended in divorce after her husband reportedly abandoned her.
She died in 1927 at the age of 66 and was laid to rest here beneath this remarkable structure.

I love finding places like this because you never really know what story is waiting behind a name carved in stone. Today I came looking at an old mausoleum and left knowing a piece of a woman’s complicated history.

Found this on my journey through Indiana today. đź–¤

I came across this old grave at Hillcrest Cemetery, and there was something about the little stone coffin surrounded by the old iron fence that immediately caught my attention. I had to stop and take a closer look.

I don't know the whole story behind it yet, but that's part of what makes wandering through old cemeteries so fascinating. Every stone has a story, and sometimes you stumble across one that makes you want to dig a little deeper. đź–¤
