Our artist of the week is Mat Kearney, a singer and songwriter originally from Eugune, OR. He got into his faith when he was in college and describes that experience by saying, “it was a really beautiful moment where it felt like the clearest, I’d ever seen it. God is this force of love, and He loves you and has something for you. Like, our whole existence is about relationships with people and with the Being that created us.” It wasn’t long after that that he started in on his music journey and has now been making music for over 20 years, where along the way some of his songs have even been featured in popular movies and TV shows! Mat Kearney is going to be performing at the State Theatre in Minneapolis this Friday, August 14th. You can see him in concert and hear his songs like “Good Thing Going On” and “Can’t Look Back” playing on The MEL.

Our MEL artist of the week is Allie Crummy. She is a singer/songwriter and plays the piano and guitar. Allie describes herself as a deep thinker whose lyrics express the tension between what she hopes to be true compared to what is actually happening in the world around her. Her songs will always give her listeners deeper questions to ponder. In the month of January Allie does something that she calls “Songuary” where she attempts to write a song every day. This year she wrote one of her newest songs “Skies Up North” during Songuary. You can hear “Skies Up North” and her other songs like “Cotton Candy Sky” and “Entropy” playing on the MEL!

Artist of the week this week is Yam Haus, a local artist based in Minneapolis, MN. The band is comprised of Lars Pruitt (vocals), Zach Beinlich (bass), and Jake Felstow (drums). Lars and Zach knew each other in high school and when they connected with Jake in the Twin Cities gig scene, Yam Haus was formed. Yam is an acronym meaning “you are me,” the groups moto for reminding themselves to treat people how they would want to be treated. When the group formed in 2017 they were all living in the same house, leading to the final band name “Yam Haus.” Yam Haus will be performing at Harriet Island Regional Park in St. Paul, MN on Saturday July, 18th as a part of the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival. You can check them out in concert and listen to their songs like “Dollar Store Mansion” and “One Bullet Left” on the MEL!

Our artist of the week is Grace and Max, a husband and wife duo based in Nashville, TN. They are both singers and songwriters, and Max is a multi-instrumentalist and the producer of all their music. The two were both pursuing their solo music careers and had no plans of becoming a duo until about a month before they got married when they had the opportunity to open for another artist…but with the catch that they perform as a duo. And they’ve been performing as a duo ever since! The two create a blend of both fun, pop style songs and songs that carry deep meaning. One of these songs is “Better Place”, a song meant to encourage those struggling with metal health. You can hear “Better Place” along with their other songs like “Jesus Cares” and “More Like You” on the MEL!

This week’s artist of the week is Strings & Heart, the Christian group from Tucson, Arizona. Strings & Heart is made up of the three Espinosa brothers: Angelo (vocals/guitar), Michael (bass/keys) and Eric (drums). The band got their name from Psalm 150 where David talks about praising the Lord with many instruments. The second part came from the encouragement they were given throughout their growing up years to do everything with their whole heart, leading to the final name, Strings and Heart. The group said “the reason we make music, is for people not only to have an encounter with Jesus, but to truly follow him. We feel our generation is a generation of passion, looking for the truth. And so it excites us to share the Truth we’ve encountered in Jesus through music.” After releasing their second full-length album last fall, their goal is to keep releasing lots of new music this year. Their newest song, “Peach Sand” drops this Friday (6/26)! You can tune into the MEL to hear their music, including songs like “Eyes on Him” and “Honeydew.”

Our artist of the week is Lydi Lynn, a singer and songwriter originally from Portland, Oregon. She can remember making music on her piano as a kid, realizing for the first time her love for writing songs and how much needed it to help her process life. As of February she has released two EPs. Her second EP is titled “Metamorphosis” because the songs tell of her own personal metamorphosis that she experienced through her relationship with Jesus. Head over to the MEL to hear tracks like “Real Love” and “Easy” playing now!
