How to know if your sugar baby watermelons are ready for harvest

Hollow Sound: Tapping or thumping the watermelon produces a deep, hollow sound rather than a high-pitched ring.

Heavy Weight: The melon feels unusually heavy for its size.

Brown Tendril: The small curly tendril or "pig's tail" right next to the watermelon stem turns brown, dry, and crispy. If it is still green, the melon needs more time.

Yellow Ground Spot: The bottom "belly" spot where the melon rests on the ground changes from white or pale green to a creamy yellow or buttery cream color.

Dull Rind: The shiny sheen on the skin fades into a dull, matte finish. In sugar baby varieties the rind turns into a dark green almost black
