How My Students and I Use Our "Completion Slip" System
In my classroom, my students and I have a simple system for late work that keeps us all organized and accountable. Hereβs how we make it work:
My Setup is Simple:
I keep a tray of blank "Completion Slips" and a dedicated "Late Work" bin right by my desk. The slip is just a small form where students fill in:
a. Assignment # and Title
b. Date They Are Turning It In
c. Their Name
Here's Our Routine:
Step 1: When a student has a missing l assignment to submit, they grab a slip, fill it out, and paperclip it to their work.
Step 2: They place the packet directly into the "Late Work" bin. This is the most important step, itβs their responsibility to complete the process;
Step 3: At the end of the day, I empty the bin. The slip gives me all the context I need to quickly find the assignment in my grade book and record it. The date on the slip is my official record for tracking lateness.
Why It's a Game-Changer for Us:
For me, it saves my sanity and my time. I instantly have a clear, dated record, which stops the "But I turned it in!" conversations before they start.
For my students, it builds ownership and pride. The act of filling out the slip makes them actively responsible for their learning. I see them walk to my desk with a sense of purpose, handing in not just their work, but a record of their effort.πΊπΈππͺπΌπβ€οΈπ¨βπ«π©π»βπ«πΈπ€ππΌ
