Note: we were supposed to leave late last year, but I had an emergency back surgery (which I’m now pretty well fully recovered from), so the timeline changed.

Now the next chapter begins and I’m not sure I’m ready.

Mike and I fantasized for years about the moment we would become empty-nesters. RV’ing around the country or getting a little sailboat and goofing around the Caribbean, golfing, building a little home in New Meadows, ID and another tiny home in Hunt, TX so we can both have time “at home” with our families of origin while still working part-time. Not an extravagant life, but something we planned well for. I mean, this is what we worked for, right? RIGHT??!!

But no one tells you that once you reach that stage, a whole new bag of life opens up that needs you.

Yeah, our youngest kids have kind of left the nest… but maybe they still need us and we shouldn’t leave. Greyson and Noah still kind of live here. They are in that place where we still financially support them in many ways, but they are also kind of paying their own way. And since Noah works in Boise at the airport, he’s mostly at his dad’s except to come home on his days off and drop a big mess bomb! And Greyson is only home maybe one or two nights a week… sometimes. He’s been working a lot in Meridian and living with his aunt.

And honestly when they are home, they don’t like us very much because we are pressing them on packing up their rooms and taking the next steps in their lives. Neither are being abandoned. They both have plans, places, support in place. But they are pretty freaking mad we are leaving. 😂

Darian and Amanda are fine. They dont need us. But… ***The hardest part? That grandbaby of ours makes me want to buy a little house in Boise and open a new daycare with one little client. I know people live far away from their grandchildren all the time, but it makes me sad.***

I’m not really sure I’m ready to leave. But the date’s been set for April 15. 😭

Keeping things active. My husband loves to paramotor. He’s been through two training courses, but still has a lot to learn. But he’s having a great time doing it. He had to take a break after breaking both ankles in a moto accident, but he’s almost fully healed and getting back to his high-adrenaline pursuits!

This is what the Active Mode RV Life is all about! My husband biking the Lower Whoops Trail in Bend, OR. Yes, he is using a class 1 e-bike. But he is recovering from breaking both ankles and needs a tiny bit of pedal assist. With this one, though, he rode in only level 1 or zero assist. He just needs the assist in a few areas. He's slowly regaining his ability to fully utilize his ankles!

We had our first shakedown trip this last week for eight days in McCall, ID at the McCall RV Resort (one of the G7 RV Resorts) in our Brinkley G3950 pulled by our 2026 Ford f450 and it could not have gone better. We had so much fun that I got zero photos of our actual adventure! (Thus, the photo of the two of us is not in McCall! 😂 Just wanted to say hello with our faces!) We were so busy that we just left our phones in the RV and biked, walked, went swimming, and went for long drives. Every time I went to take a pic or video, I’d realize I’d forgotten my phone or camera! I will have to fix that in the future, but not a bad problem to have when you’re trying to get away from it all.

Learned everything we needed to know to get her there safe, sanitize the fresh water tank after it had been winterized coming off the line, empty the tanks, and so much more. I’m sure there are a million more things to learn.

Such a comfy unit. Cooked so many meals vs going out to eat. The kitchen is small but has everything we need. The AC dealt with the hot weather and the fireplace warmed us when it got cold overnight. Our only complaint is the noise of the AC. We will definitely have to remedy that before we hit the road full time. I could handle it, but it about drives my husband crazy.

Some immediate changes we will make:

—switching out the sofa for a Lovesac Sactional. We already have a huge one in our home, so we just plan on moving a few sections out, getting different covers for it, and getting rid of the current sofa. So many people are doing this that Lovesac might want to strike a deal with Brinkley or vice versa.

—Wacko company or some other silencer mode for the AC

—currently have a 15-foot RV Rhino sewer hose. Probably will need a longer one or an extension eventually. Is there such thing as a splitter so we can empty grey 1 and 2 and black 1 and 2 without moving the hose? Need to look into this

—may remove the happy Jack couches. Don’t see us needing those and we will be hauling tons of toys in the near future (mountain bikes, dirt bikes, and a patamotor)

The consensus though? The 3950 is amazing!! Love almost everything about it and our first trip was flawless!
